Hi everyone,

I'm just creating a new spec for my paladin. For your information, I have full t6 gear with BT/Hyjal items only (exept trinket and belt). Our maintanks are warrior, druid and me.

I used a 0 49 15 spec before with impr. seal of the crusader. Now I'm looking for something to generate more aggro, my tps is usually between 1,2 - 1,7k. Unfortunately, we havent any retri palas in our raids and there wont be any in the future as we have too many melees in our raids by now.
I created a 0 40 21 spec http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=sZVhtIb0dMgoxVfx0bcz
Ok, missing ardent defender is a - , but I dont care a lot about avengers shield (may be interesting after 2.4 patch) because I can hardly use it in raids.
A big + is crusade and of course holy aura.

My questions are:
1. Has anyone experience with this spec?
2. How big is the aggro difference between 0 49 15 and 0 40 21?
3. Would you advice me to use the old spec?

Many thanks in advance!

This is definitely one of the better Sanctity Aura specs I've seen.

Loss of Ardent Defender is always more of a hit than many realize, especially if you spend most of your time as an AOE tank. Still, if your healers can keep you up, you'd be able to pump out a fairly ridiculous amount of AOE threat with this spec.

I'd never advise going for a Sanctity build, however ive always looked at it, your spec, is probally on the better spec's ive seen. You will loose some frontload agro without shield, but with sanctity you will make it up over the fight.

Im curious tho, why you want to change spec's, is your dps able to catch up with you or what?

Another option would be is to get a Holy paladin to respec to 40/0/21 and make sure he is in your group :)

Thanks for your answers.

I just wanted to test how much aggro a pala can "do" (I dont know if do is the right word :P). Especially our warlocks are aggro machines and they are mostly somewhere between 100 and 120% aggro.

Im not sure if any holy pala will spec 40 0 21, we mostly have wl, shaman and our 3 tanks in mt group, so we would lose a tank supporter. The other problem is, I'm the only tank pala in our guild and i would be the only one to benefit from that holy pala in our group.

I'm sorry for my bad englisch  .

I do not know, but I would like to know =)

10% spell damage aura? That is super fantastic.

Avenger's Shield is great, but mostly for heroic instances - in raid situations I hardly use it.

I might pick up this 0/40/21 spec at some point as well.

The only thing that really holds me back - so far - is this:

1. to get the aura, need to skill 21 points into ret. The talent, itself, is only 1. But getting there is what causes me some concern. For the most part, 10 points are wasted on talents like run speed, crit, or whatever, that do not help one ioda for tanking.

2. I do not just lose Avenging Shield, but also Ardent Defender, and 4-5 other talents that would be far more useful, precision, some points in spell warding, combat expertise, 1h weapon specialization.

So, the end sum is, we give up a lot, NOT just the Avenging Shield. =(

Well, considering you get Crusader (which is practically 1% more threat per point), it's not a complete loss to the threat aspect of the build...

While I agree in general with your point, it's only 7 wasted points.

Pursuit of Justice provides a 3% chance for spells to miss in addition to the run speed. This is 3% mitigation for any caster fight, and unlike spellwarding, should work on non-damage spells to boot, like fears and debuffs and such.

I recently respecced to stick it into my build, swapping points out of Improved Judgement, as I almost never really used Judgement the moment the cooldown was up, often having to reapply either Holy Shield, Consecrate, or Cleanse something off me instead. My threat's not an issue at my current progression, while mitigation is.

Heck, 5 wasted points, since Improved Judgement could also be taken, for threat boosts.

Still wasted points, just not quite as bad as you're saying.

I'm 0-40-21 since several weeks now. First it was, because we are farming T6 since almost 6 or 7 Months now and holding our DPSer began to be really hard.

At the moment I'm really thinking about to give this spec a go with Sunwell. AD is almost worthless in single target fights. And in ae situations I'm always well treated by my healers.

And AS is nice, but almost useless, too.

With 0-40-21 you are losing a bad ultimate and an expensive mitigationtalent, which you hardly need, especially for bossfights.

Maybe Felmyst encounter will tell me I'm wrong.

This is 3% mitigation for any caster fight
No. At best, assuming the mob casts nothing but spells 100% of the time (and I'm aware of no boss that does this and only a handful of normal mobs), it's 3% avoidance. At best.

Most of the time it'll be somewhere between 25% and 50% casts, and the rest will be some kind of physical attack.
