Prot DPS/TPS spreadsheet v0.11

Jonesy

Prot DPS/TPS spreadsheet v0.11

Latest version.

Here's what I believe it currently models accurately:
Gear
Enchants + Gems
Set bonuses
All reachable Holy, Prot, Ret talents
Almost all raid buffs
All common glyphs (including 3.09's GoSoR)
96969 rotation comparing SoB, SoR and SoV
Stat weights including a graph (hardcoded for the moment)
A complete buff list
Partial resists and glancing blows.
A better Holy Shield model

Here's what's missing, but I plan to implement:
Naked stats for anything other than a level 80 human
Non-96969 rotations (i.e. Glyphed AS on cooldown, HoW at sub-20%)

Here's what I don't plan to support:
Gear database
Level < 80
Offspec threat talents like Holy Shock or Divine Storm.

All comments are welcome. Thanks for your time!

Thank you for posting it, I was looking for a spreadsheet like this for some calculations, but could you please convert it to .xls format? I'm still working with Office 2003 which is not compatible with .xlsx file.

Sure, done, link updated. :)

Bump for haste and Glyph of Seal of Righteous calculations.

Now supports meta gems, set bonuses, all significant raid buffs, and a hardcoded stat weight graph.

I created an account here (long time lurker) just to say this is coming along nicely.

Maybe when it's finished people will finally realise that hit rating is actually a decent threat stat instead of blindly linking the weightings from Psiven's weapon tps spreadsheet.

I think some of your resistance mechanics might be inaccurate, but I'll wait until you're finished implementing everything to comment on the math.

Yeah, by the end of T7 gearing, hit becomes almost as valuable as strenth, head and shoulders above everything else. Surprises me, because at my gear level (10-man), it's about 2/3rds as good.

I'd be appreciative if you could comment now rather than later; not only does it mean I can fix things sooner, but it also points me at areas where the equations might be difficult to follow. So fire away!

Base stats are wrong for a level 80 human paladin:

Str 150
Agil 90
Stam 142
Int 98
Spirit 108

Also:

1. Your Expertise formula isn't properly adding in Expertise from talents. The spreadsheet shows me at 20, while I have 25 in-game. Even with this correction, though, your spreadsheet would list me at 26 Expertise. This is likely due to the fact you're rounding normally while Blizzard completely drops all decimals when converting rating to skill.

2. Under buffs, you didn't put in the "formula" for Draenei Aura in C18. If I change B18 to 0 (no Draenei aura), C18 still lists a 1 and that 1 is still getting added at the end.

There is a possible problem around the SoV glyph for swing DPS/TPS for SoB/R - if you have the glyph turned on it is increasing the damage done by swing for the other 2 seals. I say possible as you can of course switch it off when looking at SoR/B but when comparing all 3 seals at the same time it favours SoB/R.

Would it be possible to have 2 swings listed (or one for each), for SoV which would change depending on glyph (what is already on the spreadsheet) and another 1/2 for SoB/R?

On a side note is parry haste taken into account for weapon speed? Should only be a few %.

by that do you mean 25s, 10s, or either?
Amaranthea
You ignored holy shield resists, but you also mentioned that in your assumptions so that's fine.

ShoR does not have a threat modifier.

SoV dot ticks are not fully resistable but are subject to partial resists based on the "spell school specific resistance from increased level" that all spells suffer from. This is not avoidable by spellhit or penetration. The refresh / application can be fully resisted and I'm pretty sure this is mitigated by spellhit (although I haven't tested this thoroughly and it is also largely irrelevant from a sustained TPS perspective).

Assuming I'm right about SoV ticks not being fully resistable, the spreadsheet is currently slightly overvaluing hit rating, so str should still be ahead of hit even with the best possible gear in game. However, the closer they get, the stronger the "consistency" (hit) argument becomes.

Edit: Stat weightings appear to be per point and not by itemvalue, which is why AP and BV seem low. The sheet is also ignoring Holy Shield resists, which should mitigate some of the overvaluing of hit. Terrible mental math suggests str will be just over 10% ahead of hit for sustained threat on a per itempoint basis, but hey, that's what a spreadsheet is for.

Yeah, I was just perusing my latest WWS because it felt like I was missing on bosses a lot, and "Holy Vengeance" misses a heck of a lot. It doesn't stop the DoT from ticking, though.

Stacks didn't fall off

The little SoV hits seem to miss as spells too, but at 8 dmg average for me... I really don't care. :)

-- Oh, and my guess with the new resist system is that there pretty much will never be "full" partial resists anymore. The level difference probably constrains partials to 10% and 20% resist amounts for bosses now.

This is correct.

Yes, there is. I've added a note to it, it's annoying but it's easy to work around so it's low on my list of priorities to fix.

Nope, nor is reckoning.

25s.

Changed, thanks. :)

Amaranthea wrote:SoV dot ticks are not fully resistable

Yeah, this was a mistake that I made based on hasty WWS analysis. I'm intending to model the partial resistances when I've researched them, at the moment I'm making the assumption that all our holy damage suffers from it. I'm attempting to keep things roughly on-par by not modelling glancing blows either, so the spreadsheet definitely overshoots the in-game TPS you can expect to see.

I'm not modelling the SoV ramp-up at all, because I'm assuming that for any boss that this spreadsheet will be interesting for it's negligible.
