Tanking Naxxramas in Sunwell gear?

Tanking Naxxramas in Sunwell gear?

I'm planning to zerg to 80 pretty quick on the Tankadin - I'll go "explore the content" on my priest & warlock later.

Downside of levelling fast is that you don't collect much gear and crafted BoEs are less available due to lack of mats / crafters.

The guild is on M'uru now, maybe we kill him this week, maybe not - but my gear is good enough to tank twins/brute/M'uru adds. I already have most of the off-set "warrior" pieces, including a Brutaliser.

Am I likely to be able to mostly just go "Bugger it, I can tank Naxx in my Sunwell gear!" - or am I going to have to get all the crafted stuff?

The crafted stuff seems marginally better - but it could easily be "over kill" and I may as well just skip straight to Naxx-10 in Sunwell tanking gear and collect ilevel 200 epics rather than spending a fortnight collecting crafted crap.

Thoughts from people in the beta?

My thoughts: there isn't as big of a difference between 70 and 80 gear as there was between 60 and 70 (because of the big stamina changes and different sets for different specs), and seeing as I seem to recall some being able to do Kara in T3, I don't see why not.

The only issue I see is possibly reaching uncrittable.

Ugh... good point.

On PTR, my standard Sunwell tanking gear is already 1 skill point under the crit cap.

Will have to stack some defence rating - http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?item=42508 is probably a good start.

Though I do expect that defence rating is going to have to be tuned.

Resil can help with the gap if need be if the rest of your guild is there with yea. (In my opinion of course, haven't played with numbers much.)

Well... Maybe I don't understand the question properly. Of course its doable with Sunwell gear with some regeming and re-enchanting.

But question is, why to skip Wrath gear before Naxx? There will be million people leveling Blacksmithing maybe including you, so AH will be full of http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?search=daunting and similar pieces. I am sure you will be running heroics for badges no matter what too, so why not pick gear there?

Pick some level60 tanking gear and go try tanking Karazhan. It has been done. But why to do it?

It's more a question of emphasis - if I need to pick up the two daunting pieces, the crafted epic shield and the weapon, that's cool. If I grab a snazzy blue or epic out of a 78+ or heroic dungeon, or have enough badges to buy something nice before Naxx - also cool.

That will all happen "by accident" in the week I spend levelling to 80.

What I'm hoping to avoid is a month of farming to replace every single item so I can tank Anub.

Mining / Engineering ATM... and wondering how much metal I'm actually going to find levelling to 80. Not hopeful...

The query was also partly brought on by the tankspot gear guide which has a whole pile of cases where it says "don't bother upgrading SLOT X if you're wearing the Sunwell item - get XYZ in Naxx-10"

Example:

Before WOTLK: You probably don't want to replace your T6 (or better) before you enter Naxxramas.

Unless they tune Naxx to be less forgiving, you will be fine with 2 pieces of Daunting, re-enchanting and re-gemming. You need about 14k DPS for Patchwerk and you need 3 healers for Horsemen, thats all about hard requirements.

Actually some trash packs are more nasty than most of bosses. Only hard hitters are enraged Maexxna, enraged Faerlina and Sapphiron maybe.

On beta, we cleared Naxx 10 with really desperate PuGs, without addons, without timers, without consumables.

I doubt some excessive farming will be needed.

Here's my Naxx gearing guide :)
- Get Daunting pieces and http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?item=39655
- If you have Tier6 keep it, just re-enchant and re-gem it.
- If you have some heroic drop, replace Tier6 with it, its better in 90% of cases.
- If they not gonna fix crit cap, use resilience pieces, resilience enchant and resilience pot.

Gz, you already have better gear than I had during first Naxx clear.

As Fiorina says, get a bunch of green +defense gems and the Daunting gloves/legs and you should be good to go. Saronite is common as dirt and the gear you need made is great for skillups so unless you beat all the blacksmiths to 80 by a week you should be able to find it easily.

Thanks for the feedback :)

Unclear how hard the DPS requirement for Patchwerk is going to be - DPS seems really badly tuned ATM. I assume "hard".

I was under the strong impression that Naxx was supposed to be tuned for two healers - I ran Kara with three until we out-geared it, and it was annoying.

Is it only Horseman that wants 3? I see people doing partial clears with 2?

fiorina wrote:You will be fine with 2 pieces of Daunting

Well... only if they don't tune defence rating. If they make crit-cap easier to reach, then I might stay the Sunwell stuff. If 540 is still painful - Daunting it is - they should be VERY cheap - 1 Eternal earth and some saronite.

Until deep BT and Sunwell, I preferred green defence/stamina gems over blue +stam a moderate amount anyway.

Gemmed to match any reasonable bonus all through T-5/T-6.

Just shoving +15 stamina gems into every socket is boring - I like the idea that we want other stats as well.

Ah well, I suppose to a certain extent, fair enough with the whole "uncrittable is hard" - uncrush was hard to reach as a pally in blues for Karazhan. You basically had to have the "perfect" set of blues. My new guild didn't actually believe it was possible when I switched over (they were in BT - their previous tankadin was kinda bad).

Looks like Naxx-10 will be the same - reaching uncrit will be a decent challenge.

Resilience annoys me - I don't PvP - may change if they don't nerf ShoR too hard. But I've used it - reaching crit-cap while flame tanking I used the 3rd chest ring from ZA - well, until 3rd kill when I tanked Illidan instead of flame, and haven't tanked a flame since, because the other tanks don't want to tank him any more :D

Unclear how hard the DPS requirement for Patchwerk is going to be - DPS seems really badly tuned ATM. I assume "hard".

Very easy now actually. Notice you gonna do around 2k DPS on Patchwerk with current build so consider yourself as DPS.

Is it only Horseman that wants 3? I see people doing partial clears with 2?

Only Horsemen requires 3. And its more because of positioning rather than healing output needed. Doable with 2 especially if they are paladins, just much much harder. (marks are resistable, lol)

Regarding gear choices, depends on crit cap. If it will remain like it is now, daunting pieces will be better than Tier6.

I phased that badly - with rogues doing 6k, just bring 3 rogues, 3 tanks and four healers and you can kill patchwerk on beta ATM - so right now it's very easy.

What I meant was that I'm assuming the DPS check for patchwerk is supposed to be hard. And I'm assuming that after the DPS tuning pass, that it will be hard - they're saying that people will be doing 2.5k to 3.0k With two tanks, three healers (because some people will bring 3 for sure), 5 DPS, you are going to run close to enrage. DPS are doing 12.5 - 15k - tank DPS is what gets you over the Raid DPS requirement. Two healers makes it pretty trivial though.

Of course, the problem is that in an "easy" 10-man, you just can't tune it as tightly as, say, Brute or M'uru - if it was, you'd have to perfectly stack your 10-man. Won't happen (IMO). Which means the "two healer" setups are going to be well over any DPS requirement.

Makes SPs with Imp VE totally OP in 10-mans - they DPS, and count as half a CoH priest.

Let me guess: Marks can be bubbled off?

Looks like it's possible to be in-range of both tanks? But then you'd just take double marks.

Duh! (smacks forehead): Beacon of Light = easy mode?

=edit= Looks like the healer on the ranged side can out-range both marks and heal both ranged tanks?
