One new build i've been toying around with is going into ret for improved retribution aura. it really does help for aoe tanking in hyjal, especially with the tier 5 bonus.

i dont't realy need to sacrifice much, i already have imp JotC, so it's just taking 2 points out of AD that allows me to fill in this talents.

it's pretty fun and i'd say something to try out for fun

2 points in defender won't save my life, it i drop that low without a heal something's wrong. When i raid on my paladin, it's really just to aoe tank...otherwise i'm on my warlock. and there's always the fact that we do hyjal trash with 3 tanks, one of each class...7ish healers, 3 tanks...i'd hope i get healed

3 points in ad still makes a pretty good difference if i'm going without a heal

A build ive considered for a while in the MT BT/Hyjal trash role and im currently usign it with some nice results.

two points in reckoning based on the reckoning uptime graph. I maily like to keep reck for heroics and for when you need that little bit extra threat. Besides that pretty much standard build.

my build (0/44/17):
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=sZVhtI00dgMqtVbx0hb

My duty is to AoE tank in Hyjal/BT.

(note: if you look at my armory page now, 5/1, I am in some healing gear since I logged right after Az) I do have ~500D, 415 Spell Damage, comfortably over the un-crushable with Holy Shield up level

So going without 3 instead of 5 in AD was actually a notable difference.

So the new change i made to get the Improved ret aura was to take 2 points out of One handed specialization

It's losing 2% total dmg output...gimping a bit of my threat, but since i pick up improved ret aura and it's now ticking back for 54 instead of 26, i think it's about an even swap, and it's also a nice buff to have for the tank group

I'm not a main tank...i tank trash and aoe pulls...i'm not about to be put on Kael or anything

I'm usually in the tank group for ret aura...it's more free threat for our tanks.

Improved ret aura not only gives me more threat, but also to all the other tanks in my group.

It might not be ideal for being a cookie cutter main tank...but neither is improved crusader.

My spec's to improve the raid

On a tank with 50% avoidance...2.5 swing timer on the boss, and a 10 Minute fight:

Normal Ret aura will provide 3120 free damage for our main tank, giving her more threat

With t5 and improved ret, it will give 6480 free damage...after dps talents and salv and whatnot, that adds up to be about 10,000 more potential damage for each dps class, which really adds up after totaled.

while that's not a ton of damage, it's still free reactive threat, and since a big part of my role is raid support, i'd rather be able to buff our main tank while i'm playing an offtank or healing role

I have always run Improved Ret Aura as well. While lvling it was useful for solo aoe grinding. Now that I maintank 25-man raids, there is always another paladin around to provide Devo Aura so why not take Ret Aura? Concentration Aura isnt a huge concern in PvE so all those Pally healers out there can certainly give you a hand and run devo for you. I think its a great way to add passive threat and not have to give up anything really in a raid group.
