This forum

Added in a locked forum for the first one, since it seems most bots post stuff in the very first forum... If people are actually controlling the spam by hand, they would be posting in every forums, not just the first one. Let's see if it eliminates some of the spam....


Again, sorry about this guys, I really have no control over bots that just spew whatever phramecutical crap. I added on the feature of makign them use the image recognition for signing up, but apparently they have been getting around that with ease.

Gotta say these bots are pretty impressive. Not only can they read the non-computer-readable gif images for verification, they can check email and follow the link as well!

It still seems they aren't real people, as they wouldn't post crap with a forum "a way to stop spam bots" in the description...

This is a phpbb board right? Can't you change the settings for view to "private". Keep all the other permissions the same. If it's a bot, the view permission shouldn't matter as they go off the "post" permission to create the topic. I use an application mod where new users not in a Usergroup are able to submit an application to the forum from a form. Yet I've marked the forum private and viewable only by one usergroup.

I think you could do the same here, change the view to private so it's not viewable by the general public, and spambot posts will just disappear into a black hole. Turn on pruning for the forum and set it for like 1 day. It will self clean itself and only logged in administrators will see the crap.

Just an idea from a fellow board administrator.
