MT vs OT for a tankadin

I've been wondering for a while: if a tankadin has to OT by staying 2nd in threath list won't it be hard?
I mean we get our mana regen with heals and if we stay 2nd we won't get hit so we won't get healed and by consequence of the mana costs of our skills we'll soon be oom (even with JoW and DP).
I know that it is still doable but I think it makes more sense for a tankadin to be MT in these situations (where you OT the same target as MT). Am I thinking wrong?

Use seal of blood and divine plea every minute, you'll be fine as long as you don't consecrate.

If you have to be second on threat it's because something bad is supposed to happen to second in threat, generally be hit by some high damage skill or just get aggro at some point.

Hence the problem does not happen.

I find it hard (short of going OOM) to keep from pulling threat on some fights ... others, like Loatheb, I seemed to go OOM quite a bit and struggle. ShoR can be crazy threat. Moreover, if your other tank is in on the plan, you can always do something like taunt and have it taunted back from you. Viola, big threat lead (like you need it?) and you're suddenly much closer than you might be if you're languishing. ... as long as they know the plan, hehe.

That said, I don't mind being OT on a lot of fights. Being able to throw Hand of Sacrifice for an enrage, locust swarm, or other high-burst mechanic is REALLY handy. (And, as a bonus, I get mana later!) This lets the other tanks benefit from my HoSac, and use their Shield-Wall equivalents before they die. Then, I can taunt and finish it off. Wink

Also, sometimes OTing fights is more fun. I found that I rather like handling Gluth's adds. Wink

On trash, it's almost hard NOT to steal aggro from everyone.... though warriors give me a good run if they've gotten in and blown multiple skills on a group of mobs. I sit back and save my mana for the next one, in that case.

Thank you for the replies!
I like the hand of sacrifice idea to get mana Very Happy also it can be used on MT and even if he loses aggro he can always taunt.

I'd say the hardest thing is not to take over agro from maintank. I accidentally did that on Kel'Thuzad when I was supposed to DPS and had forgot my RF on. Though when they decide to remove the JoL threat for us this will probably change
