Agility vs. Dodge

I'd like to know what you think about agility. Especially in reference to the blank dodge stat. Till 2.4 we chosed agility most likely because of the impact on evasion as an alternative enchant. After all we had a little use of melee-crit bonus. But recent changes on the game-mechanics and the add of new skills made crit much more interesting, so we can make use of every aspect gained from agility. To add a number to the comparison: Every point invested in agility (when buffed with Blessing of Kings) will mean 0,03% less evasion than gained from dodge.

So, assumed you're about to gem one red stone, which one would you choose? +16 Evasion or +16 Agility?

Several people are hard at work determining whether the pure avoidance from dodge rating will increase your survival rate more than the dodge + armor that agility gives at high levels of gear. We don't have the results yet. The short answer is dodge rating will always give more avoidance.

There's another thing I'd like to know.. Is it possible for agility to scale better with evasion than dodge after a while? Bearing in mind the "decreasing impact" change in WotLK.

No. All sources of dodge are affected by DR.

Agi will always give you slightly less dodge than dodge rating, but as DR kicks in the extra armour from Agi offsets this.

From some simple playing around on a spreadsheet it seemed to me that under most circumstances with practical gear Dodge was always better point for point, but only slightly.

Agi also gives threat from crit, and if the EH benefits add up to you being able to take an extra hit, then it pulls way ahead (obviously this is unlikely).

Your statement was unclear Elise. In fact it appeared that you were contradicting yourself. It happens to all of us.

From the little I have examined agility versus dodge rating, I suspect that you need very high levels of dodge for the armor from agility to pull agi ahead. The problem with the comparison is that it's a TTL comparison, so is dependent on the strength of the hit (and also the complete lack of TTL math in my spreadsheet Smile ).

There is a point when agility is better than dodge, but it is likely very high in gear level and will vary from boss to boss. If someone can help me find a good TTL calculation that I can implement, preferably in spreadsheet form, I would love to take a closer look at this. I have programming skills (vba, perl, matlab, whatever) if it needs to be more than simple spreadsheet math though.

when i hover over the "agility" on my character screen, it tells me it increases armor and crit. so i've kind of ignored and avoided. does it indeed give us dodge? i was always under the impression that it didn't.
