Imagine you are tanking a fight like Kalecgos. Its near the kill and the enrage is starting. Due to the mechanics of the fight you have a million threat lead on everyone else so threat is not an issue. You turn off autoattack and just use your normal rotation with a macro to turn off autoattack after judgement.
How much threat do you actually loose, and how much mitigation do you gain?
Assuming you are using SoV, your threat from White Damage is pretty minimal. If you just keep up a 96969 rotation canceling autoattack after judgment you will still refresh SoV (from hammer proc) but shouldn't actually do any white attacks.
This means you don't get parried at all, which should lower your damage taken.
You will be loosing ~300 white DPS which is ~420 TPS
Assume a boss attacks with a 2.0 attack speed, and you with a 1.6 speed.
The average boss has a ~15% parry rate. Average prot paladin has a ~5% expertise so that makes for a 10% parry rate.
In a 1min period you attack 60/1.6=37.5 times. With a 10% parry rate thats ~4 parries a min.
Each parry speeds up the autoattack speed of a mob by 40%, to a minimum of 20% of remaining time. According to some Elitist jerks thread this works out to a 24% increase in speed on average.
This means you take an extra ~1 hit a min. Or an increase from 30 to 31 which is a 3% increase in damage taken.
At the moment we have an absurd threat lead. Would you take 3% more damage for a paltry 420 TPS?
