969 rotation unnecessary?

after tanking every encounter, I am finding the 969 rotation pretty unnecessary and sometimes detrimental to tanking. The reason I say this is because I rarely get the opportunity to use it without getting distracted or running out of mana. I generally break stuff like this up into a pro/con analogy:

pro:

-higher dps = more theart

con:

-can be considerably distracting from the encounter
-potentially reduces up-time on Libram of Obstruction
-can run you /oom if you forget to not press consecration

since most encounters require me to be repositioning the boss or getting out of a void zone or other attacks. I end up just mashing buttons while watching the raid and boss for good opportunities to use my cooldowns. The only damage ability that I miss out on is consecration, and I can't even use that spell a lot of the time anyway.

Just wondering if anyone thinks this is a really bad idea, or if other tanks are in the same situation as me.

First, if you are ooming on boss encounters, you aren't doing it right.

B. If you find the basic rotation that hard to maintain, macro it if you must.

i don't have much experience with macros. The reason why I am not using one right now is because I don't know how to make a macro selectively cast consecration.

It's is pretty easy to run out of mana, especially in 10 man encounters. blessing kings instead of sanctuary often makes the difference.

Then use Sanctuary?

I've not found kings to be necessary on anything except Patchwerk (25) and Sapphiron (25).

And I'm not sure it does any good on Patchwerk since you can either live through 2 hits or you can't. Nobody is making it through 3 hits. I guess maybe a well geared druid could.

If you run OOM you overgear the content and should use sanctuary instead of kings.

Holy shield has 8s cooldown and 10s duration. 969 works fine

And abusing the SHoR bug will likely be problematic later on.

As for needing the rotation, 2 cast sequence macros + a third if you want to drop consc / burn, but heck having 5 buttons on your bar + burn / undead (8 total) doesn't seem that bad especially if you modifier in the burn / undead stuff.

Going oom should be hard tbh, between divine plea, sanctuary (yes it is good, and often should be your go to blessing rather than kings), and potentially weaving in SoW / JoW (or having JoW from another paladin since you should Judge Light due to it being considered part of our threat scaling) mana problems shouldn't be a problem on any boss level mob (and if it is hit x).

In all Honesty I do not use a rotation. I just face roll anything not on a cooldown and tps is never an issue. Only thing I keep up and watch is HS.

Razz I let that slip for more dps, since I seem to be getting a fair number of "why did I bring you guys" achievements recently. Might start abusing the ShoR bug for more as well.

Practice the hell out of the rotation. Buy a stack of water and go hit target dummies for 30 minutes. Do whatever. But if you slam your face against the rotation long enough, it becomes second nature. I can pretty much afk mentally if I wanted (like I do on Loatheb) and still maintain perfect rotation.

And BoSanct is your friend.

Eversteel used to tank uphill both ways in the snow.

I tend to drop Consecration from my rotation a lot of the time, simply because it is so expensive. If my mana is going down, that's a good thing to drop.
