Block Value -- What Can I Solo?

We went back and killed Vashj last night so a few newer folks could get their rings/titles, and I somehow ended up with the T5 helm. This resulted in me going through my bank and trying to put together a "Block Value Set". I think I'm at 1030 right now, and the Gnomeregan Auto-Blocker and Coren's Lucky Coin actually stack with their uses, pushing me over 1500 with my Meta-Socket bonus.

So what the Hell am I supposed to do with this? I could swap in my Figurine of the Collosus for some extra healing if needed, but I'd like a good idea of what I can solo in this gear. Ignore the random gems, I'm debating switching them all to +defense to get more block rating. With the expansion drawing closer, I'm pretty bored.

In case I didn't log out in it, the gear is as follows:

Crystalforge Faceguard - 40 BV, 19 BR, +10% BV Meta
The Darkener's Grasp - 14 BR
Pauldrons of Stone Resolve - 30 BV, 31 BR (socket)
Farstrider Defender's Cloak - 38 BV
Panzar'thar Breastplate - 39 BV, 24 BR
The Seeker's Wristguards - 28 BR
Gauntlets of Enforcement - 36 BV
Girdle of Stability - 56 BV
Unwavering Legguards - 59 BV, 30 BR
Jungle Stompers - 42 BV, 28 BR
Band of the Eternal Defender - 44 BV
Signet of the Last Defender - 42 BV, 28 BR
Coren's Lucky Coin - 59 BV
Gnomeregan Auto-Blocker 600 - 59 BV
Bulwark of the Amani Empire - 42 BV, 19 BR
Tome of the Lightbringer - +186 BV on proc

I'm going to be re-enchanting the shield with +18 BV shortly, but I'm debating just using my Bulwark of Azzinoth with the set just because it feels silly not to use it. Is there a decent weapon with +block rating or value out there?

Any input is appreciated, thank you!

Wouldn't pure avoidance be better? I just know the block value we go thru as a pally does not scale as mobs get harder hitting. If u have a lot of block value, it will be effective on mobs maybe in regular heroics or just light hitting mobs in raids. Once you start going in BT, and mobs are hitting you at least 2000+ per hit, you might want to think about alleviating all the damage taken.

That's just what I think. I don't like to rely on Sanct Blessing to be my main source of threat if that is what you are getting at with ur block set. Tbh, I never tank w/ my block set, its nice and all, but I still favor all out dodge or just pure STA if tanking casters.

Pure avoidance is better for end-game tanking, yeah. I have a normal set where I'm at around 29% Dodge, 17.5k health, and 550 spelldmg. This is just something I'm toying around with to see how much I can do just on my own.

If things don't hit for more than 1000, chances are, I can solo them-- right? Excluding magic users I guess.

The problem is that to solo things you don't need only block value but passive uncrushabilty too.

Yeah, that's been the rough part. I mean... I've got a painful amount of gold to spend so I'm debating just cutting a bunch of defense or dodge gems and socketing my whole BV set with them.

I've seen a lot of the Garr posts, but what's the "biggest" thing someone has solo'ed via a block set? I need something to keep me sane until the expansion! Anyone else interested?

Mainly to solo lvl 60 content you'd not need more than 750 block value.

I am by no means as advanced as most folks here... but with my gear on the PTR, I was group-pulling mobs in Blood Furnace without much issue, unless I took on 5 groups with imps/casters and didn't kill them first=)

I suspect I *MIGHT* be able to do some underbog action. In the mean time, I am working on gathering the set to get to passive uncrushability=)

Its posted elsewhere, but here is a link to the Sandbox of a guy with the gear/enchants/gems to get to 102.4% uncrushbility without HS.

So really you're just looking for hard hitting physical mobs, yes? How about giving the Sons of Gruul a shot?

If by lvl 70 content you include raids, then no, you need a lot more Smile

Attumen and Moroes for example you can solo with ~3-4k BV.

You can solo most trash pulls in instances with high block value, you get more of a problem with bosses. Pre 3.02 patch, with my passive set i could do the group pulls in shattered halls with a 90 percent avoidance set, 650ish block value using seal of light/(trinket that heals you every time you block) as long as i didn't get stunned or scatter shotted, which ussually happened.

Post patch as in yesterday, i soloed all the mobs in shattered halls up to first boss, which can't be soloed unless you leave some trash alive.

The main reason its possible to solo large groups of mobs is blessing of sanctuary, with that much passive avoidance three mobs will keep your max mana(2percent of total mana per dodge/block/parry/miss), seal of light will keep you topped off and the most important ability, Hammer of the Rightious. Right now Hammer of the Rightious can proc your seal of light on three mobs. With a six second cooldown and a very high proc rate for seal of light, you can gain a large amount of health.

I've soloed ramparts pre patch in mediocre gear(72ish passive avoidance/750ish bv), but had to use a ton of health/mana pots, post patch though, i think with a full passive avoidance set, i think its very possible to solo all normal seventy instances that don't have mechanics that fear/stun, or mobs with too much spell damage.
