'pallies need more healing'

i was told this by a couple of healers in my guild, tonight...and i was pretty certain that we dont...but is there any maths to prove this one way or another?

btw, search function has failed me with many hundreds of results for 'more healing'

Pallies usually are low on the healing meters because they lack a group or a Raid heal, paladins cannot heal more than one target at a time. Nor do we have an HoT that helps when bosses silence.

I hate meters anyway. A pallies strong suit is healing a single target, and rotating between quick heals and big heals. Or topping people off with the short quick heal. Usually at least one paladin will be assigned to the MT because of this.

With that in mind if you look at WWS reports make sure you look at the actual boss encounters. There is a HUGE descrepancy sometimes and paladins pawn all.

Paladins don't need "more healing" as far as +healing or mp5. We need different types of healing spells to be more than a pocket MT healer.

i meant this more as a 'do we take more damage than warriors or druids?'

I can't say for sure if it's true that we need more, but I'm pretty sure we want more on average. More healing = more mana; more mana = more aoe aggro. If we're not getting healing then SA isn't kicking in to keep our mana topped out. I ran into this in a regular SP run the other day. I wasn't taking enough damage because of my gear and thus was running oom quickly.

see, if anything, i've found i take -less- damage against single targets than warriors or druids...but because i tank MORE mobs than them, people think i take more damage from the single mobs

all other things equal, a war will take 4% less damage than us from the discrepancy between imp RF and their defensive stance (6% mitigation from imp RF, 10% from def. stance).

also warriors tend to have a little more pure avoidance overall rather than a large amount of block making up the difference to uncrushable.

That said, a paladin can easily reach the pure avoidance levels a warrior can (my mt set is just as good as the set my guild's warriors run around in) but the only things we lack in a pure "maintankadin" set pre t6 is threat generation and HPs that are on par with a warrior. With all my avoidance trinks and gimmics up i can pass 30% dodge, but my HP suffers. To reach a MT war's HP i have to sacrifice avoidance in favor of SB mitigation. To match their threat, i have to be crushable/critable. To do all three, i have to take a little more damage, have a little less hp and generate a little less threat than a MT warrior.

So you can tell your guild that yeah by the numbers a war will take a little less damage, but that should not deter you from MT'ing anything. I MT'ed all my guild's progression kills save lurker in SSC. Now though we are in BT/MH and we actually have geared wars ready to tank so i just let them.

progression is progression, i don't really care who's tanking so long as i get to tank something.

We make healers do 4% less overheal, that's all.

At same gear level you don't have to sacrifice anything.

I got more HP, more avoidance, and more threat than my warrior co-main tank, and we got exactly the same gear, except for the weapon and helm.

We get a larger stamina bonus from talents though, Don't we? That would imply we could gem less for health and gem for more avoidance to make up the difference. Smile

Also, I agree that for many healers it may seem that pallies take more damage in heroics because we tank more mobs at once generally. We're more comfortable with holding the adds and the boss than a warrior would be.

Try to do as warriors do. Bring a mage and a rogue and sap/sheep everything you can . You will require lots and lots less healing. Tell your party up front thou you'll be drinking after each pull.

A paladin is a paladin and a warrior is a warrior.

The other day in SL, on the way to the first boss we got a Fel guard demon and got feared to early into a caster group. What is a warrior going to do? CC them all on the fly? You rightious defend, throw a shield, consecrate and use BoP on your healer and you'll be fine. 4 mobs on you and everything going smooth once AD kicks in.

People should stop comparing warrior and paladins to much. Yes we both wear plate and yes we both can tank. There it stops. A warrior in general needs more CC from his group while a paladin is the CC himself.

Stop thinking warrior, start thinking paladin. It is another class, another specc and you'll need other things.
A warrior would liek to have the 2nd or 3rd mob CC'ed, a bear will need CC on the 4rd and 5th mob, a paladin takes them all and will need more healing.
Why do you think we got ardent defender? On initial pulls I always hang around 30%, not dropping lower. AD makes sure I can keep handling the massive incoming damage from 5-6 mobs. Once the first is dead and you had your concecrations down you can just autoattack and keep holyshield.
I often think along the lines of "I wanna see a warrior eat this hunters multishot" I wanna see a warrior handle the extra adds".
You just do things different then a warrior. You will never succed in competing with a warrior if you do it his way.
Try outshooting a hunter with a rogue or try out poking a rogue with a hunter.

Play to your strenghts. Know your weaknesses.

Modus, you have 5 pieces of t5, why not use the 2.4 badge legs? They're more health with almost no mitigation loss. And unless threat is a major huge concern of yours, you can also change to +stats on your rings. It's another 0.4x% dodge and 100 health.

Another thing is that you gain more from buffs than warriors. You get more dodge from gift of the wild/food/scrolls and more health from stamina. (paladins get 1% dodge per 25 agi, warriors per 30 agi). My avoidance set can beat you in avoidance, but I'm only at the t5 level really (guild has only gone into BT once seriously and only first two bosses down) and your armor/health beats me.

In a way, I do agree with Worldie, most of the extra healing you need is mostly just going to be overheal, and thus you don't take any significant amounts more of damage. The main reason paladins seem to take more damage is they're taking more mobs and/or a lack of proper debuffs on the mob. If you're having a paladin tank but no warrior is putting improved tclap on the mob, you're taking upwards of 20% more damage. But this isn't the complete answer, as warriors do have an advantage over us in TBC. I wouldn't be too worried about it though, as it already looks like things are being fixed in WotLK.
