From the looks of it, with all the tweaking that Blizzard has been doing with HotR, it certainly seems like they're trying to encourage us to use high-dps weapons as our tanking weapons. The question is, will we want to in relation to spell damage weapons with SP scaling just as well and appearing in larger bunches on them. *glares at Titansteel Guardian*

From what some of the people have been reporting, ShoR is generation massive quantities of DPS summarily bringing with it copious amounts of threat. Now, based of of a 9/6/9/6/9 threat rotation it would seem that it still lacks the GCDs to really be our "primary" threat tool when we have more skills to use on longer CDs. So it would seem that this setup still favors SP weapons as the majority of our skills scale equally (if not better) with those weapons as opposed to DPS/"Tank" weapons. Especially given that our white damage gets ZERO scalability threatwise.

It still seems counter intuitive to have this setup that favors one weapon over another for certain skills (HotR/ShoR/SoV scaling better with DPS/Tank weapons due to strength with our other seals/spells scaling equally if not better with SP). It would be nice to see even a small modifier on Imp RF that deals with White damage, to give us a bit of scaling with DPS/"Tank" weapons to put us more on an even par. Granted, this new tweak may push us to a more equal threat-gen with both weapons making either equally desireable, but I doubt that there's extensive testing even by Blizz to verify whether or not this is true.

Red Sword of Courage is now close enough to the Guardian that I'd just use it.

I'll happily trade 20 TPS for 25 strength and 38 defence rating. Stam is the same at 58. And I'd rather have 0.7% hit than 0.56% crit.

AND! it's a tanking weapon. I won't look like a damn holy pally. Just as distinctive (and desired by tanks) as the Sun Eater.

Maybe more so, since there's nothing better in Naxx-10

why isn't Dragonscale-Encrusted Longblade on this spreadsheet/graph? Its like end game tanking for warriors. I'd like to see how it compares to the end game spell dmg weapons (lvl 70).

It's off the charts because its TPS is too low. It's a threat sword for warriors that's worse than many other options for us, unless you really want those few points of stamina.

Something I have been professing for some time now ever since I got my hands on Hammer of the Righteous which got a change in the last patch before the current one where the tooltip caught up to the change which tied the damage of the ability with the DPS of the weapon and not the speed making it desirable for fast tank weapons that are plentiful in Wrath of the Lich King and current content come 3.0.2 when it launches.

Currently based on the spreadsheet created by the Mainktankadin theory craft poster, Psi-Ven, found here; there is still an edge with spell power weapons but that edge is actually fairly small when you look at the data. Small enough then I will probably hedge my bets with physical damage weapons and gain defense through my mainhand for the first time in a long while and have it be a gimmick. Looking at the chart we can see that the difference between the top end TPS weapon and the lower end is less then 200 TPS less then 10% of the total theoretical TPS and that data does not even take into account the base 1.49% bonus that all tanks recieve since they baked the bonus from Blessing of Salvation into our threat stances.

This does not change the data in favor of physical weapons since the ratio should remain fairly close to what it is now, but we are generating much more threat then previously beleived; a basic assumption would be multiplying the totals by 1.49 netting a range of 5006.4 to 4768 TPS a difference of about 5% at level 80 in tank gear. So overall I type all this to say that the difference is minimal and that to ensure making the critical cap you sacrifice very little going with a solid tank weapon instead of a spell power one.

The math may be incorrect but if I am correct the 1.49% should just be multiplied by the TPS which should net the same ratios. But math is not my strongest subject.

Right, since very few weapons have BV (or even STR) and the baseline scaling is global, almost nothing changed.

It's 43% bonus threat, multiplicative, according to the testing I've seen. In other words it is exactly as if the DPS have Blessing of Salvation. Without the ShoR nerf we'd be seeing just over 5k TPS, with it we are still absurdly over-mark and will be seeing more nerfs unless they reverse the scaling changes.
