Group pull followed by RD on boss?

in normal 5 man, sure you could do this, but... I wouldn't suggest it, the risks outweight the potential benefits. And in heroic, you're going to get dead squishies on a regular basis.

This approach works well on bosses with a couple helpers. First boss in SV, last boss in MT, for example. Have your dps set up a spike on one of the helpers, and you can basically start the fight with one add dead. Casters can set up 3-hit combos like Pyroblast/scorch/fireblast or Shadowbolt/Immolate/Shadowburn that do a ton of damage up front, then give you a global cooldown to start getting ahead on threat after your taunt. Just make sure to squeeze in time for RD during your opening sequence!

Well, it's something a hit capped warrior/druid will be able to do after the patch, and fairly effectively at that.

...There is no point in doing this...you are missing the most basic premise.

The usual "tank" pulls:

dps 0
tank initial aggro (*lets say 1.5k for paladins shield pulling)

Your method:
Dps ~1.5k threat (*on a crit...with no salv...or threat reduction talents)
tank 1.5k threat after a successful taunt.

The usual method has the tank 1.5k ahead of dps....your method has you equal to dps.

The usual method allows the dps to start damaging almost imediately (*because you will have generated more threat in the 3sec cast time)

Your method requires the dps hold back before they start as you are currently equal at threat to the dps instead of being ahead.

Back before BC, my guild <Retribution> had a good way of dealing with multi-mob pulls in Naxx. I think we only had like 3/4 warriors that we brought to raids, so for any pulls with more mobs, we used to have all the mages do a "retri" pull. In other words, they'd all Pyro/PoM/Pyro the same target and burn before it even got back to the group, hopefully killing it. When it didn't die, well, then we had some dead mages and healers to rez after the pull.

But again, I think it's a viable strategy, one person unloading on the mob/ a boss before it gets to the group, if and only if you're hit capped, post 2.3, so that the taunt it guaranteed to go off.

If having too little threat is enough of a concern that a risky pull like this needs to happen, Salvation is probably going to be your best bet for increasing the damage your dps can do in relation to the threat you're putting out.

If people have omen/ktm installed, and they're not complete retards, it's simple:

Pull
Aggro gain
White dps
2-7k threat lead in the first 10-20 seconds
Go all out

Simple. Effective. And if people are watching, then they can pace themselves. Good on mana conservation also.
