Crush and Holy Shield Lag

Death Knights are going to be raid tanks, just like Warriors, Druids and now even Paladins are.

Druids technically are 2hd tanks right now -- they compensate with super high armor values.

The trend seems to be hard-coding mobs to not crush, I think they will soon put crushes on an internal cooldown and then eliminate them completely. I wouldn't be suprised to see Bear armor nerfs as this unfolds. It will be really uncomfortable for them to make Deathknights with 25k armor at lvl 70, and Paladins have already proved that avoidance tanks aren't that useful.

I don't think they will remove crushings, they would remove one of the druid's weakness and the paladin's strenght.

I belive they will make them sonehow predictable, or less harmful, but i don't think they will remove them.

Re: Crush and Holy Shield Lag

Combat messages are sometimes out of order when they are VERY close together in time. In this case, your last crush was seperated by hundredths of a second from your HS fade, so the ordering is going to be inconsistent.

The other crushes were because you were knocked down. You can't avoid blows when on the floor.

If they remove the crushing blows, they will certainly do something to help paladin tanking still be viable, since our strength is being hardly crushable. We are designed around block, having an insane block value to compensate the lower avoidance/hp will solve the problem.

A tank's life must go down smoothly in order to make the healers life easier. This is acheived through high armor or high hp. A crushing removes the same chunk of a bear's life as a normal hit on a war, making them equivalent in a healer's point of view. Our life is lower, making similar hits look stronger. If we block more damage, no one will see the difference between a warrior and a paladin, even if we have a lower life.

I think it would be neat, although very close to Paladin tanking style, to see Deathknights tank via parry. Maybe through a combination of +parry talents and +parry rating gear, they would deflect a great number of blows (perhaps on par with Druids dodging) whie doing a good amount of reactive damage.

I think that sort of effect, although nowhere near the scope of Paly reactive damage, would be neat and effective in a fourth tanking class.

Perhaps supplement it with some instant cast (rune based) spells, possibly with limited timers (5-6 unique rune-based spells, with cooldowns from 30 seconds to 20 minutes), and you'd create another unique tanking class.

Spells might look something like: Random Name, Instant Cast, for the next 20 seconds all damage you cause also heals you for the same amount, etc.

This is all just fun, playful guessing, but it seems to fit the feel for a Deathknight and the requirements of a new and distinct tanking class.

Don't forget that they'll get specialized 2H tanking weapons. As these will be specific to only one class, they'll have a lot of influence on their tanking abilities.
