Righteous Defense Macro

reading in the tanking 101 article(excellent piece btw) i had to stop and post this topic for clarification on use:

this is the macro offered: /cast [help] Righteous Defense; [target=targettarget,help] Righteous Defense

it looks great but i need some help on how to employ it, and sme help understanding what it does differently than just using the game interface as it starts.

so i make this macro, and make a button for it, then i paste it on my ui;
when someone has 3 or more mobs on them and i want to help them,
a. i target the part member and click the macro? that is just how it is unmodified.
b. the macro can now see that the person needs help and automatically operates righteous defense for me without any button clicks? that would be nice.
c. i make multipl macros with the peoples names or party positions and single click the right one to automate the process eliminating clicks?

please clarify what i do with that macro step by step for my noob self..
thanks a lot. great forum, great post, great moderation and site design..
thanks a lot pallies

Well, the biggest thing it does, is allows you to cast it while you have the mob targeted as opposed to the player. If you have a mob targeted, the macro will cast RD on the mob's target. Generally it is a lot easier to spot a stray mob and target the mob, than to figure which party member the mob is targeting. Also, since it casts RD on the mob's current target, it tends to be more reliable as a loose mob can change targets frequently.

Also, you you don't have to wait until 3 mobs are on someone, and generally if you do, that person will be dead unless they are a tank. This will work any mob targeting the person you cast it on, up to a total of 3.

Be careful when using this macro, if there are more then one party members high on threat the mob might switch targets quickly and due to the mechanics of RD if the mob switchs targets as you cast it, lag makes it not work. So make sure that the mod is firmly on said player before tuanting or else you'll waste the CD.

the macro basically turns RD into a warrior taunt, as in, you taunt the mob instead of reverse-taunting the player.
