969---> 868

I know what 969 is and have been trying to get into the habit of following the rotation no matter what, the results have been very good! but when I was bored i took a look at my main skills (hs, cons, shor, hotr, judge, whatever) I noticed that though they were in correct order, the cooldowns were 868686, none of em were 9.

Now I know that speccing into ret a bit, which I did, gives you shorter cooldowns for judgements, but what about the other stuff?

I rechecked it and its right, i have sov, AV, wings, and then the rotation which alternates between 8 and 6 sec cool downs, not 9 and 6. How did that happen?

I believe 969 is like that to accomidate global cooldowns. I read the posts about it a few months ago and haven't looked since, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

They really are 8 seconds(If you take 2 points into improved Judgement).

But to make the system truly work, you have to pretend like they're 9 seconds. The global cooldown is 1.5 seconds, so in order to make a rotation where you ultimately don't start tripping over your own abilities and maximize your DPS, we say 969, because we're actually simulating a rotation that was first put to use by Fury Warriors(With 1 point in Improved WW and Bloodthirst for their 969).

Yeah, i'm pretty sure the time your missing is global cooldown.

An old thread on it is here: http://www.failsafedesign.com/maintankadin/viewtopic.php?t=13944 although slightly old substitute the "free" GCD's and put in ShoR

There is also a handy diagram somewhere but way too tired to dig it up Wink

while you can reduce your cd's to 6 and 8 seconds for all your abilities, working with a 1.5 second cd makes everything reliant on multiples of 3 - we "pretend" consecrate has an 8 second cooldown, but it's simply triggered every 9 seconds. same with holy shield (lasts for up to 10, can be refreshed at Cool - we trigger it every 9 seconds. speccing 1 point into imp judgement fits in nicely with our rotation

0 holy shield
1.5 sor
3.0 judgement
4.5 hotr
6.0 consecrate
7.5 sor (7.5-1.5 = 6 seconds its off cd)
9.0 holy shield (9.0-0 = 9 seconds its off cd)
10.5 hotr (10.5-4.5 = 6 seconds its off cd)
12.0 judgement (12.0-3.0 = 9 seconds its off cd)
etc

of course you can modify *spell* gcd's by stacking haste, but that won't really do much (none on tanking gear, basically worthless to consider). Although it is entertaining to see stuff like consecrate and (i think) sor gcd's drop with blood lust ^_^

You can't modify all our gcds. Any strike will certainly be unaffected and some other abilities as well.

Holy Shield = 8 to 10 sec
Consecrate = 8 sec
Judgement = 1 pt talented for 9 s

So technically it's:

8(up to 10) * 6 * 8(w1 sec downtime) * 6 * 9 * 6 * 8(up to 10)
