Ready for Ulduar25?

Our guild has been running Ulduar10 and Naxx25 for a while now and I have effectively served as main tank of both. We haven't finished all of the bosses in Ulduar10, but we're pretty much tired of Naxx so Ulduar25 has come up.

My question is: Am I ready for Ulduar25? I thought I was doing pretty well, but I keep reading on here about needing closer to 40k unbuffed health to succeed in there!

I have some gear in the bank, but for the most part I only have one set of tanking gear. The current gear I'm wearing is intended to be balanced for most encounters. I have 53.7% total avoidance, 101.15% towards the block cap, and a tad over 31k health.

Are there things I can do to my gear to get ready faster? How much of my avoidance should I sacrifice for EH? Do I have too much avoidance?

The progression is supposed to go Naxx25 -> Ulduar 25. Since you have some Ulduar 10 gear, you're actually overgeared for the first few bosses of Ulduar 25.

40k hp Unbuffed? I'm pretty sure that's not even possible with Ulduar 10/Naxx 25 gear.

Well that's good to know. I was trying to figure out what I could possibly be doing wrong. I have some lingering pieces of ilvl200 gear that I'd like to get rid of (and hopefully will soon), but I don't have any problems tanking the things we have conquered.

So I'm worrying for nothing then? Is my gear (or more important stats) appropriate for the next step? Are there modifications I should/could make to gems or enchants to make life easier?

I realize I don't have all epics gems, but rather than regem everything I've been taking the approach of only adding epic gems to new gear. So that will come in time.

The only real change I'd make to you gear is replacing the defense/dodge gem in your weapon with a straight stam gem. The expertise socket bonus isn't really worth grabbing imo. Also, replacing seal of the Pantheon with another stam trinket would be a good idea. Ignis drops one and is a pretty easy fight now if you can get through his trash. Or you can always grab the one from H AN or Yogg-Saraon on 10man.

Ulduar has been nerfed a fair amount since it was first release and there aren't any major tanking gear checks until hard modes. That's not to say you should walk in there with greens/blues, but even without getting a single upgrade, you could probably MT all of ezmode.

I have the Gossamer trinket, but if I take out the seal of the pantheon, I drop below 540 defense. So then I'm back to gemming for defense. That may be worthwhile. I'll have to spec that out.

Inevitably that's going to lead to me losing avoidance to gain health. I don't really know what the balance is there. How much avoidance should I be willing to sacrifice for the 111 stamina? Are there any guidelines on that?

It looks like I can twink my gems in my weapon and ring to make up for the seal. Then I end up with 32344 health (vice 31284) and 53.06 avoidance (vice 53.74).

Is losing .68% avoidance worth 1050 health?

When bosses hit for as hard as they do in Ulduar 25, I think that an extra 1k unbuffed health will be quite a bit more useful than two-thirds of a percent of avoidance, personally.

I also think there's a benefit in having the flexibility of being able to swap your trinkets out for stam or avoidance depending on the situation. Relying on a big +defense trinket isn't optimal, especially a blue +defense trinket

I decided against re-gemming for gossamer at this time. We haven't started Ulduar 25 yet. By the time we do, I hope to have upgraded my belt, shoulders and neck with some conquest (and triumph) gear. At that point, I will be able to swap out Pantheon for Gossamer without dropping below 540 defense.

Then I will be able to easily swap them out to either get 34k unbuffed health or 54+% avoidance depending on the situation. Thanks for the help all.
