Cannot generate enough threat.

Armoury Link

My guild has started ZA, and IM the MT, with a Druid OT, on boss fights i find that i cannot generate enought threat, and our SP in particular is struggling to do anything once he reaches my threat.

In my profile im wearing the T4 gloves, as opposed to Maidens gloves, which are gemmed for stamina, with a 2% threat increase enchant.

Raid buffed im over 102.4 avoidance, with 370 odd Spell damage.
For pos i use Draenic wisdom and adepts elixer, with stamina food.

I plan on swapping to Spell damage food, and the arcane elixer for added spell damage. Ive swapped my libram to the consecrate one, and will get the +damage badge libram, just need 2 more badges.

Is there anything else i can do to help with threat generation. In particular, should i be changing from just stamina gems to spell damage ones?

Are you using Superior Wizard Oil on your weapon?

If so you might have to cave in a Flask the important fights.

The spell damage food should help out a bit too. I wouldn't recommend spell damage gems because they'll gimp your survivability too much for what they offer.

Yes i am using wizard oil, sorry for not including it.

During a boss fight, omen shows me going at about 650 - 700 TPS.

What's your boss-fight rotation?

Is your SP using VE in his rotation? especially if there's aoe damage going about (cleaves on bear boss, thunder on eagle, bombs / hawks / breath on dhawk) or if he's in the tank group, it'll amount for quite substancial threat right there.

If the SP is decently geared (pre-kara 1200damage is reachable for them), then ripping aggro off a T4 geared tank simply means going all out.

Alot of SPriests also have 2 points in improved Vamp Embrace to get that little bit extra healing when they are soloing only it seems to generate a hell of a lot more agro.

As far as I know most shadowpriests don't use VE except in constant and heavy AOE damage encounters, due to aggro issues.

however, especially at your kara level, any DPSer can rip aggro off you with ease because of the fact that while DPS badge gear obviously boosts their damage dealing capacity greatly, tank badge gear is mostly geared towards boosting survivability with only a couple pieces (2.3 chest, 2.4 legs) geared for spell damage.

That said 650-700 TPS sounds pretty low, I think Omen may be wrong in your case about your TPS numbers.

And it was asked already, but what is your boss fight rotation?

<-- 1200 with maybe 1 kara drop, progression fights are almost impossible with that gear at the T4 level.

Could be the fact that your shadowpriest simply isn't giving you enough time for threat. Perhaps going all out. I remember at that level had to cut out VE as well as SW: D from normal rotations, could simply be the fact that you do have way overgeared dps for your runs

hmm i think its a question of your boss fight rotations. there are prolly people here who are better tanks than me here but i'll throw in my seal rotation.

seal of right->av shield->pop your wings->holy shield->judge right->consecrate->reseal right

this should give u some nice burst damage.

then its just a case of rejudging right and keeping the seal up, and spamming holy shield and consecration non stop. at some point u also wanna judge crusader or wisdom on the boss depending on what u need more, threat or mana.

also bear in mind its a tit for tat, your dps have to watch omen and not pass u. at the end of the day if u are still downing the boss then everyone is geared enough for it, and dps should stop moaning and control their dps. with better gear comes the need for more control but at least u can help them out by maxxing your threat as much as u can.

i hope this helps

I have a similar rotation except i start with JotC to try and frontload my threat as much as possible.

Immediately before pull:
SotC
Drink for full mana
Rank1 HS just in case the boss is faster than i am
Pop Wing Macro ( /y Light give me Strength! /cast Avenging Wrath) Laughing

Pull Time:
Avengers shield
Max Rank Consc
Step back to the edge of consecrate range to get 1-2 tics before i get hit.
Judge Crusader at max distance
Max Rank Holy Shield
Threat Macro (/cast judgement /cast seal of righeousness:vengeance)
Max Rank Conscecrate

After 3 judges of righeousness i switch to vengeance for increased threat/max mana efficiency then just work with the threat macro, hs, consc till dead.

Is the shadow priest specced 3/3 Shadow Affinity? My main is a shadow priest who mostly PvPs, and my alt is a protadin. On the rare occasion that I take my priest PvEing, it is often tempting not to spend 50g to move a couple of points around, but I can't stress how important that 25% threat reduction to shadow spells is. Without it I can easily pull aggro off of a T6 tank, even while wearing my pvp gear.

If you're using wizard oil/food, popping AW on cooldown, etc. and still having trouble, you might try asking him to do the following:

1) Selectively use VE (best option)
2) Take short breaks when you threat cap him
3) Chain fade (not going to help much, and kind of a mana drain)
4) Drop Shadow Word: Death from his rotation (this will lower his DPS as well as his threat)

Your spelldmg isn't too bad. I have a l ittle less than you and can hold a constant 1000-1200tps as long as I have the mana to consecrate. As far as the shadow priest we're just aggro whores. My main is a shadow priest and I use 2/2 Imp VE and I put VE on every boss. My tanks have no problem holding aggro off of me. Sounds like you need a better rotation. And the reason for using VE on every boss is for the healing after I SW: D. Puts less strain on healers. Even the tanks in Phase2 Illidan I put up VE and go max rotation and I never threat cap.
