Last night I had a discussion with one of our tanks that resilience still covers crits in pve.

What is the hard and fast amount of defense you need if your wearing straight tanking gear, and using the Merciless Gavel (18 resil).

According to the math in the OP (487 def + 18 resil) reduces your chance to be crit 5.68%. Assuming this is correct, then 486 defense (5.64%) would be the amount to shoot for, bare minimum, if using the S2 mace. Can anyone confirm this?

How about throwing the MGSW into the equation (31 resilience). Looking strictly at uncrit, this would allow your defense to drop to roughly 479? (Assuming 18 resil covers 4 defense, then 31 resil should cover 7...wielding both mace and wall reduces defense required by 11)

Assuming the initial math is correct, 485 defense would be the minimum with that set up, as 5.60% crit reduction is uncrittable.

One nice thing for resiliance is actually to get it for your healing set. I spend a lot of my time healing, and occasionally I end up tanking in my healing gear (the priest in HKM, Netherspite).

Getting crit sucks (especially on Netherspite). Getting together some resilient healing gear would really help with these kinds of situations.
