I'm probably going cloak -> (non-spell-damage waist) -> chest -> legs myself.

I'll pick it for both max stamina and threat set. Will still use the panzathar in regular tanking and aoetanking sets tho.

Yeah I'm thinking I'm going to go...

boots (nice for AoE tanking) > legs (not sure here since I have wrynn) > chest (I might be getting the t4 even though I have Panzar) > Belt (not sure if i want the sp damage or non-sp damage one)

I'm not sure if I should ever worry about the bracers from the new badges since I'll probably have Void Reaver's before 2.3 goes live. Opinions between the two? For some reason I'm leaning toward the WoD from VR.

So back to the main question about chest pieces, lol.

I'm thinking Justicar Chestguard is actually not quite as good as the new badge one.

Differences:

  • Stoic Guardian +97 armor over Justicar
  • Stoic Guardian +12 more stam, baseline, before gems or enchants.
  • Same sockets/colors in both. 3 total, 1 of each color. If I got either they'd get stuffed with SSoEs anyway so the bonus doesn't really matter to me.
  • Justicar has 1 more defense rating (negligible to most people).
  • Justicar has 23 shield block rating where the Stoic Guardian has 38 dodge rating. I suppose the Stoic Guardian would be best for pure avoidance?
  • Stoic Guardian has 8 more spell damage than the Justicar. Negligible in the long run?
  • Most noticeable difference to me at a quick glance would be the 30 intellect on the Justicar and the complete lack of it on the Stoic Guardian. An oversight by Blizzard maybe?

I suppose in the long run it depends on what you need it for.

No, the lack of int was exactly what Prot Pallies have been asking for. Int is useless when you're getting hit for a lot, and even when you're not, 30 int provides only enough mana for 3-4 seconds of full out tanking, 6-7 if you don't consecrate.

The badge piece is a clearly better MT piece if you can afford it and stay uncrushable, you give up 3% block for 2% avoidance.

Personally I believe we need some form of healthy mana pool (read 5k-6k) in all fairness. I'm not asking for a 10k mana pool, that'd be pretty retarded.

I have the 4-piece bonus, so I am kinda in a bind as well. Not sure what to do there. If I get the chest, then I lose the 4-piece. Not that it will ruin my life or anything, but still a hard decision for me.

While I agree Int is not a prioity over mitigation, stam or spell damge or well really a lot of other things for us me personaly I think of it like this. Would a warrior or bear want the ability to increase thier rage bar somehow? Yes, I think they would. Also keep in mind Warrior and Paladin mechanics are not quite the same.
I try to pepper it in when and where I can as a buffer but as far as what I have been tanking 6k is perfect with a large pot assortment. So, I treat it like the 490 min Def I need a number to make sure I stay above but only raise as I know I need to.

Oh but as a small note I am getting this chest the legs, and the cpae I think, so I'll have to make up for the int loss on my legs only but might do so with a lil more spelldamage. To a point producing more threat with the same mana pool can make up for a lack of int, but I would still like around 6k since really after say in an off tank situation, my tanking is done in a fight I actualy like to throw a spot heal or two by judging wisdom on a mob and fill back up a bit.
