We need an overkill to get our position.

They have made huge progress buffing the Paladin trees. But there is not much they can do to change the fact human beings are biased, and stubborn creatures. It will get around that Pali's can tank.
But there will be those who won’t believe it or refuse to believe it.

Like what more do you want? There has been a big change in how we tank and a good base line drawn so the 4 tanking classes have some semblance of ability with out making us all just warriors with a Blue rage bar. Nothing has been finalized. I am just taking Blizz at their word, and when the X-pac is released, and we are a patch in, let’s see how we are doing. Best thing is to give the Dev's as much quantitative feed back as we can, do in constructively and pray for the best.

Well i used to think the way you do aswell, but getting into the guild i am now, where ppl think there are paladin tanks, and know their strenghts and weekneses is much better, they prefer me wherever i am prefered(as a paladin over other classes) they have faith in me cuz i've shown skill and as a result they love me, and it is aswell mutual.

It's just a guild thing, skilled paladins need open minded ppl to work with.

@The "they are on Lurker" idea : I have to disagree, there are guilds that have downed Brutallus at least that i know of that only used paladin tanks as off-specs, and that only remotely in hyjal, and it's sad, my guild is one of the few that does Illidan MT exclusively with a paladin on my server...

You'll never see all 4 tank classes being a generally equal part of the server population. It's not because one of them is more powerful than the others, it's because two of them can heal and that turns alot of people away from Druids and Paladins.

I know two people who rolled Warrior alts and expressed that opinion when I said they should try a Paladin instead. They don't want to heal so they will make a class that can only respec into dps. That's why you'll see a massive influx of Deathknight tanks come the expansion. (that and the fact that they are fun as hell to play, near instant 58 helps)

The simple solution is for the tanks to be equal, then you allow skill to be the deciding factor.

There is no need or reason for one to be overpowered to earn any coveted spot and only speaks to the original poster's either lack of ability or jealousy that they themselves are not the maintank which could be due to any number of reasons.

The last thing we need is to be over powered to get a spot, it speaks poorly of the class in general.

Issue is that from a skills perspective, from a tanking utility perspective there is currently an overpowered class, and that is warriors which already have a solution to every problem.

What we need is balance, and a way to make tanks viable and competitive in 80% of cases, with each tank getting to have their niche benefits in a small number of fights. If we don't have a good overall baseline then no matter how good you are (and even its been said here in TBC, if you have a warrior tank along to give you thunderclap etc, you might as well let them tank) if you don't have the tools then tanking will hurt progression. You need to actually have the tools to tank to make it effective, otherwise its simply making life more difficult, and really we should be saying that all tanks are good, viable and competitive.

We don't need to kick existing tanks out of their positions in raiding guilds in order to be respected as solid tanks and considered equally for replacement positions.

In short: Kicking someone else out of their position is dumb.
