Eitrigg's Oath / Fervor of the Frostborn

Is it me, or is the Use on that trinket kind of crap? (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=47882) I mean as soon as it stacks up, it's great, but when I use my trinkets I want them to make me more durable right away.

If you use it on a boss and assume no parry haste, it will take almost 10 seconds before it's built up and after another 10 it will be gone again, might be great for AoE tanking, but that's about it.

Pretty much echoes my initial thoughts on it.

I will be passing on it unless there's some amazing revelation that the Use effect is actually much better than it reads or something.

Re: Eitrigg's Oath / Fervor of the Frostborn

Problem is, that's the only avoidance trinket in T9, the other two are the one from emblems with armour and the drop with stamina.

So either I'm going to walk around with Furnace Stone forever or I'm going to roll with 2 EH trinkets.

Re: Eitrigg's Oath / Fervor of the Frostborn

Armor is very good for EH.

1245 armor is the equivalent of 124 stamina from an EH perspective against melée attacks. So for every stack you're getting the addition EH of an EoG, with a final EH equivalent to 720 stamina when you have a full five stacks.

Do you still think this trinket sucks?

Yes, because you have to get hit 6 times in 20 seconds to get a full stack of the buff. As was mentioned in another thread about the Fervor/Oath, the following sequence is usually what happens:

1) You consciously decide to use the trinket. You get a 20-second buff that waits for you to get hit.
2) You get hit, take damage, and gain the first 1265 armor.
3) You probably dodge this one, or maybe it gets absorbed by shields. Nothing happens.
4) You get hit again, take slightly less damage. You gain the second 1265 armor buff.
5) You parry or the boss misses. Nothing happens.
6) You get hit again, take even less damage. You gain a third 1265 armor buff.
7) You get hit (zomg unlucky!), you probably get some damage shaved off from AD and gain a fourth stack of the buff.
8) You dodge again. The stack stays at 4.
9) If the boss has about a 2.0 swing timer, this is around where the buff falls off.

I'd rather have an on-use ability that doesn't rely on worst-case scenarios to be good... compare to the Black Heart, which gives you 7k armor like clockwork every 45 seconds.

Fair enough... I didn't take into consideration that with avoidance at 60+%, the chances of getting a full stack up against a single mob isn't all that great, and certainly the time-averaged benefit of the proc is worse than the Furnace Stone.

That pretty much sums it up. I got it last night and I was rarely able to hit a full 5 stacks. The few times I did it was great for about 1 hit. So imo take the HP trinkets unless that gets buffed in some way, atleast the HP is there all the time.

Re: Eitrigg's Oath / Fervor of the Frostborn

Got it this wednesday, i feel the use effect is a bit weak on its own tbh. Combined it a bit durring the week with the furance stone however and using both procs and a full stack i gain around 38000 armor selfbuffed which is pretty insane :) Great for tanking alot of stuff but i doubt i'll be using it over furnace stone due to the stacking up.

Is the proc affected by DoT's effects and spells though? Would be pretty sweet to use it durring fights where such dmg is applied if thats the case.

With the great irony that the avoidance from the passive effect of the trinket reduces your chance to be hit, actually make it less likely for the on-use effect to get 5 full stacks (and generally speaking, it's an avoidance trinket with an on-use effect that scales INVERSELY with avoidance - BOO!).

Re: Eitrigg's Oath / Fervor of the Frostborn

From what ive found, all these new trinkets from ToC 10man, that gives some passive stats, and then a use effect, stacking up a few times only lasting for 20sec or so, are all pretty bad imo.
They look good, but in reality it takes you half the procc to actually get all stacks up and i think most classes have better trinkets with easy acces to aswell. However whenever it drops everyone goes "OMG GIEF SO DAMN PRO!", and tbh most ppl actually dont read and think its like dragonsoul trinket, that the procc stays up and refreshes all the time.
Id say this one is better than generals heart, but thats not really a trinket i understand or like very much anyway.

Re: Eitrigg's Oath / Fervor of the Frostborn

I agree with Treck there - it's better than General's Heart. But at the same time it's not quite as good as the guarantee of Furnace Stone. Either way I have one in my bank and pull it out occasionally.
