Quel'Serrar

Just picked this up from the 10 man Onxyia on the PTR.

Gleaming Quel'Serrar (ilvl 232)
250-465 damage
178.7 DPS
Speed 2.00
+65 STA
Classes: Warrior, Paladins (What about the Frost DKs? :( )

"Chance on hit: When active, grants the wielder 100 defense rating and 1400 armor for 10 sec." (Buff is called Sanctuary)

Initial observations:
The sword proc doesn't have an ICD. I've seen Sanctuary refresh one second after the previous proc.

After roughly 14 minutes of melee hits without any seal active, I saw a 21.7% uptime on Sanctuary.

After roughly 12 minutes of melee hits with Seal of Corruption, I saw a 70.5% uptime on Sanctuary.

I killed Thrym twice in an attempt to simulate the effect of 9696 on Sanctuary's uptime. On the first kill Sanctuary had a 72.9% uptime and on the second kill it had a 69.8% uptime. Both fights were roughly 6 minutes.

I know that Hammer of the Righteous and Judgement of Wisdom can also proc Sanctuary, but it's a fairly low chance event. I'm not sure if Consecration, Shield of the Righteous, or Hand of Reckoning can proc the Sanctuary effect.

Re: Quel'Serrar

Frost DKs DWing these would be rather busted, that's why it's WAR/PAL only. The uptime of the proc would be over 95%, essentially giving them 5% avoidance before DR and 1400 armor for free.

It'd depend on if the disease ticks have a proc chance. If not, as you can see from the lack of Seal of Corruption, the proc rate tanks dramatically.

Frost DKs DWing them essentially get two chances to proc it every GCD, by use of Blood/Plague/Frost Strike and Obliterate, in addition to the proc chances from standard melee. If you have 70% uptime doing afk melee with Seal of Corruption, (two chances to proc it every two seconds) the uptime for DKs DWing is going to be almost 100%, as they get something like 4.5 chances to proc it every 2 seconds.

Re: Quel'Serrar

I'm not so sure that it'd be overpowered if Frost DKs have the option of dual weilding Crusader's Glory.

Using 2x Crusaders, a Frost DK would get:
1044 armor
62 defense rating
36 dodge rating
212 STA
116 STR (approximately 32 raid buffed parry rating)

All at a 100% uptime.

Using 2x Quel, a Frost DK would get:
1400 armor
100 defense rating
130 STA
0 STR

The armor and defense rating would have a sub 100% uptime, therefore couldn't be reliably counted towards physical EH and critical immunity. The ilvl 245 Quel will grant slightly more STA than the ilvl 232 version, but as we can see it's not grossly overpowered, and actually may be inferior in terms of avoidance.

Re: Quel'Serrar

If DWing it would be such a problem, why not just make it unique?

Re: Quel'Serrar

I'm willing to bet the sole reason this new QS has a Warrior/Paladin restriction is because the old one did.

but the question is.... Is it worth it?

I would probably not use it all the time. But still want.

This. I'm willing to bet it'll get changed to something like "unique-equipped" and have DKs added to the list before it's released.

Re: Quel'Serrar

>-> Tis sad that I use this weapon when tanking Vezax, just because my last Laugh has Agility, and this has Mongoose. ;3 I'll take 2% dodge + my libram proc, instead of like 0.40% dodge during atleast that encounter.

Re: Quel'Serrar

will the 2.00 attack speed make it better for threat with seal of vengeance/corruption and hammer proc of said seals? Or has blizzard finally normalized it?

AP contribution is always normalized when applicable, weapon damage range never is.

Re: Quel'Serrar

So its just a drop? and not some neat quested sword?

oh, and
Death Knight
Stoneskin Gargoyle on Dual-Wielding DK Tanks
Keep in mind that quote was before we decided that Frost could be focused towards dual-wield. We have no problems with Frost DKs tanking with two weapons.

The original logic behind Stoneskin Gargoyle remains though -- there generally are not two-handed tanking weapons, so hitting say the defense cap can be harder. A DW Frost DK can use two tanking swords. Grab one of them Quel things.

Re: Quel'Serrar

so at 70% uptime that would make it about what, .28% avoidance and 980 armor? not bad at all. for physical heavy fights that 1k armor is -amazing-!
