is T8's 4 piece bonus still good to have if....

I am at 3153 Block Value with out the T8 4 piece proc, got the shoulders from deconstructor 25, if i use those i will loose the 4 piece bonus, would that be a big hit on threat?

Yeah, I was doing the pummelers on XT last night was was taking about 400 dmg per hit after block. Not bad when you're tanking four of them. I think I was around 3750 SBV after procs.

EDIT: And probably not a threat issue with the cap and all. Of course, everyone's situation is different.

Depending on your current hit, it is probably a small threat increase, since you should still be block value capped for threat.

The shoulders are quite a weak piece anyway. If you want 4-set, you should get helm, chest, gloves and legs.

Diminishing returns occur once block value exceeds 30 times the player's level and caps the maximum damage benefit from shield block value at 34.5 times the player's level.

Is it just me, or is there very little point to having above 2760 BV (before procs, taking DR into account)?

Also, swap between T8 and XT shoulders depending on what you're doing: XT for avoidance, T8 for threats.

The helm is the weakest piece in the set, unless you're terribly fond of block rating. The only reason to wear it is to maintain 4pc with Saronite leggings, which requires the shoulders (in 3.2, better than XT's on their own).

That's impressive block value, I'm sure the 4pc bonus is still worth having but I'm not sure about the kind of sacrifices you'd have for that much SBV.

I hit 4300+ with 1pc T8.5, 2pc T7.5 using IC gloves, LoO-LosS (swap), Unbreakable chest guard. =3 The trinkets from BC (117BV ftw on Gnomeragan Auto Blocker + Coret's Lucky coin(sp?) ) Non procced. and some other pieces of gear. e.e; Though the DR for it is there, I think with raid buffs (which is how I got that high without the trinkets popped) it's nice to have for mitigation, and I have been ShoR for over 13k since pre-3.2/3.1 and it hasn't changed.

Why are the shoulders better than the helm? At first glance I would have said the shoulders, with Def/BR/BV, were less well itemised than the Def/Dodge/BR helm. Is it just that I'm not looking at them in context of the alternatives available?

Mostly because block rating is a wasted stat for the most part, as we hit block capped or very close to it with raid buffs and avoidance-based gear.

I realise that, but the shoulders have block rating too, while the helm has at least some avoidance rather than the block value you get on the shoulders.

The helm wastes a ton of its budget on block rating, so the SBV from the shoulders is similar to the avoidance on the helm; SBV is quite nice, which you know if you care about the 4pc bonus anyway The block rating from the shoulders is just as poor as the hit rating on the XT shoulders, so while they're both unimpressively itemized, the former makes up for it with a nice set bonus. On the other hand, the Vezax helm is much nicer than the set helm so the set bonus barely makes the difference.
Basically:
4pc + Vezax helm = nice helm, not great shoulders
4pc + XT shoulders = not great helm, not great shoulders, bonus hit rating
4pc + Saronite legs = not great helm, not great shoulders, amazing pants

I think the helm and shoulders are both unsatisfactory enough that as soon as I get a decent 245+ piece for either slot, I'll abandon 4pc.

People on my server laugh at BV and call it worthless.

You really think hit is as poor as block rating? Block rating that does precisely nothing if you're block capped, which with raid buffs it is hard not to be at this gear level, vs hit rating that is a clear threat increase? I can't really follow that line of reasoning.

Well I guess it is also possible to be hit-capped at this level of gear also, especially if you always put your tanks in a group with a Draenei like I do

Sure you're more likely to be block-capped than hit capped but it's not entirely unreasonable that both of them could be wasted stats on a person's gear.
