To mine or not to mine...that is the question

With the buff minings toughness (no longer 500 hp, instead 50 Stamina), I was wondering if it would still be a better trade off to drop mining in favor of jewelcrafting in combination with blacksmithing? I'm pretty sure the 3 +41 stam gems will still out weigh what +50 stam from mining and the rating/stam gems needed to socket in red/yellow sockets to get the socket bonuses.

How many of you guys and gals decided that mining wasn't worth it and switched to something else?

In terms purely of optimisation, JC/BS will win it because of Epic Gemming being available early, more sockets, and socket bonuses.

That said, if you don't have a DK farmbitch available, Mining brings in some nice cash. It may not matter in a raid, but the $$$ has to come from somewhere.

3 JC Stam gems right now = (41-24) * 3 = 51 stam boost over rare gems

However, once epic gems become available, that will go down to (41-30) * 3 = 33 stam benefit

Right now between the gems and the trinket JC beats out mining, but once epic gems are released I think mining will pull ahead again. Personally, I'm holding onto mining because I don't need 2 gold sink professions, but for now BS/JC *is* the best way to go to squeeze out absolutely every last bit of advantage from your professions.

Have we seen all of the things yet to come in JC? Yes, normal epic gems are yet to come, but among the missing are epic trinkets. I also just assumed that when epic gems come out, there would also be another tier of JC-only gems.

Edit: And to the above post, yes, they do count towards Meta gem requirements. Quite nicely too, a gem that requires 1 blue/yellow/red can be satisfied with 1 prismatic.

If they keep the Monarch Crab, and say for example make it 2 sockets, and a base stat along with stam it'l still be one of the best trinkets in the game, why, flexibility that goes beyond what a normal trinket can do.

The sockets on those trinkets are the key to an incredible piece, not the actual trinket itself. Although 1 min CD on 300 dodge is so sexy its hard to not call it lengths ahead of most other trinkets in the game based on that anyway, but you have a trinket with stam, and with the potential to have more stam, or defense, or dodge, or parry, or put 2 x 27 strength in there and make it a threat/avoidance and partially stam friendly trinket. So many options.

You can tailor make a trinket that changes with you as content changes with you. Every other trinket besides the JC ones are static in nature, with no hopes of being modified, customized and allowed to grow as content changes prevail and gear swaps because potentially "gearset breaking"

Will the BoP gems lose their benefit when the epics come out, to some extent yes, but in others no. Prismatics allow you to forgo picking up a stat you don't want for meta requirements, or having to nerf one stat to satisfy that requirement also.

on a different note, if i drop a profession (450 mining) and level a new one (say 450 jc) THEN decide to drop JC to pick mining again, do i retain the 450? or start from scratch?

Yeah, I considered dropping mining for JC, my other profession is Blacksmith, but I've decided to wait. With the JC gems, you only get 1 stamina more and I don't see the flexibility with socket colors to be that big a deal at this level just yet. The biggest advantage that JC has is the trinket, but I don't think double stamina trinkets is necessary with the current content. When new content comes out, there will be new trinkets.

I just don't think it's worth the gold right now.
