How much shield block?

Hey guys, just alittle curious about +block
I can reach as high as 1900block, but Im not sure if its worth going all out in block.

I guess the question is whats the healthy mix of +dodge/block/parry

Thanks for any help

Depends on what you're doing. If you can full block all incoming damage, nifty. If you sacrifice too much to block a small percentage of incoming damage, then boo.

The values of DBP you'll want are heavily dependent on your gear and progression level. High BV is nice for heroics and things where you aren't getting hit for five digit damage, in end game raiding situations you'd probably be better off with dodge/parry.

So, keeping this in mind, the situation with the 10 man T7 is similar then with T4, am I correct? Besides the gloves and the shoulders I believe they favour block over avoidance, so we're better off with the off-set pieces?

Can someone explain to me what the current fetisj with the 102,4% is now that crushes are removed? I found it annoying in TBC to pass up on an item with dodge or parry in favour of block chance just because I'd lose my uncrushability. Now that isn't a factor anymore, so there seems to be no reason in my opinion to favour block over avoidance (although if you can get it without compromising, sure).

Am I missing something here?

102.4% is the point at which block starts to fall off of the hit table.

From the Glossary:
Block Cap - The point where additional Block Chance falls the table. A paladin reaches this point against a raid boss when their chance to be missed+dodge+parry+block an attack adds up to 102.4. Formerly uncrushable.

But that wasn't his question.

It's quite easy to get to 1k-1.5k BV while doing Naxx, raid buffed this can get as high as 2k or even more. Say a boss hits for 10k, but you're guaranteed to block 2k of it, that's 20% of damage you've just mitigated. Sure it's not as much as dodging it entirely, but block is a lot cheaper to stack than dodge.

Also, by guaranteeing that you mitigate some of every hit instead of having high avoidance streaks, means you take a more steady damage intake, which is preferable for the healers.

Would it be better to gear to the block cap if your mostly running 10 mans and heroics? Also would it be better to reach the 102.4% cap by gemming defense/dodge/parry over stamina or just wait till I get there through gear.

ATM I'm 3.7% away unbuffed (holy shield up obviously) w/ 25k unbuffed HP and I believe that T7 helm should take me over the cap, would it be better to keep the cap and slowly trade off block for avoidance as better drops come my way?

Personally I'm at a loss as to what to gear for now. I know T7 Helm, H UP sword or Naxx 10 sword are upgrades for me. I'm not sure about what to upgrade for my blue ring, trinkets, boots and shield (leaning towards Titansteel Shield Wall or CoT shield).

http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Silver+Hand&n=Serjero is my armory, I have BS sockets w/ 2x 24 stam and 1x 8 Dodge/12 Stam gems in them. So any ideas on regemming would be appreciated too.

Thanks in advance for any help also sorry if this is a derail but I seriously want to know what other people would do/think about the block cap when they're so close to reaching it.

BV is fine for every existing boss, except those who can kill you.

I'm dropping my BV stuff for def & avoid while OT Patchwerk, MT sapphiron, malygos... no more examples atm for my experience.

Everything is situational imo.

If a boss hits you for 25% of your HP on every attack, I'm gonna consider a good mixture of avoidance, and mitigation.

If its more than that (think Saph with a spark on him, 11-14k hits WITH 2000 BV are common), then pure avoidance. I.E. I'd lost 10% block for 5% dodge in this scenario w/o questioning it one bit, as long as I was still block capped, I'd wanna push dodge/parry higher.

I've gotten as high as 28% block now, and as reasonable as 21%. It varies with gear, gems, enchants, and the like, I can range from 540-550 defense in gear mixtures, 28.5-30k unbuffed in all combinations.

naxx10, block value is lovely, I adore it, I love it for 25 man for the most part too, but I'll commonly switch from T7 helm to Thane's or something with more raw avoidance in favor of the block on T7
