The Value of Defense - A Reminder

This is why I always try and hover just OVER the defense cap, and try and keep a mix of all the other stats.

They all run into diminishing returns at some point.

I haven't double checked the maths here but surely once you have a relatively achievable amount of dodge on your gear defense starts to give more avoidance due to diminishing returns? When I was lvl 70 with around 30% dodge I found that swapping enchants/gems from dodge to defense gave more raw avoidance as well as its other benefits.

Anyone know where the cross over point for this would be?

This thread covers the dodge versus defense debate. Due the terrible Diminishing returns rate miss has it takes a monsterous amount of dodge for defense to become better than dodge from a purely avoidance stand point. Defense isn't far behnd though and it assist greatly in reaching block capped.

To hollyhell: There is no reason to not leave the defense minimum behind in the dust when you're not block capped (there is no defense cap so please stop perpetuating that erroneous term). The addition block chance far out weigh a sliver of more avoidance (block chance is not avoidance either, it is block)

I'm amazed that even in a thread where Lore specifically stated in the opening post that defence was better than dodge for block capping, and almost as good for pure avoidance even past crit immunity, there are people crying out for help in knowing what to replace all their defence with, acting like 540 is some kind of cap to its effectiveness.

P.S. Run on sentences are fun.
