Hodir

Video: http://www.wegame.com/watch/Hodir_fight_preview/ (thanks Worldie)

- HP - 35,699,200 (Heroic Mode)
- Normal melee attacks for 25k damage on a well-geared warrior
- 8 Adds trapped in blocks of ice are around him, you can break the blocks (40,000 HP) to have them help you. They will randomly drop Toasty Fires throughout the fight.
- His aura called Biting Cold is using the same mechanics as Intense Cold during the fight against Keristrasza, it stacks up and damage increase over time. Moving will reset the stack. (This is also affected by the Toasty Fire, see below)
- Hodir casts "Flash Freeze" (9 seconds cast time), a spell that freezes the entire raid in blocks of ice.
- He will randomly spawn Icicles, they will create patch of ices on the ground as they drop. Standing on the ice when Hodir casts Flash Freeze prevents from being encased in a block of ice.
- You can also prevent Biting Cold and Freeze by staying next to a Toasty Fire in the room, however it will be removed by Flash Freeze. Warms nearby friendly creatures, preventing the effects of Freeze and Biting Cold, and increasing Spirit by 4. Toasty fire can be extinguished by falling ice or powerful frost magic.
- After Flash Freeze, Hodir will gain "Frozen Blows" and deal 70% reduced physical damage but each attack deals 40,000 additional frost damage.

----
This is ofcourse subject to change should Blizzard feel like it.

Now then.. Hodir melees for 25k on a "well-geared warrior". In my stamina-gear I have about 40,5k buffed, think I´m slightly ahead of our warriors. Also note the 40,000 (pre-resist I reckon) frost damage after Flash Freeze.

I smell an epic fight :D

If its 40k FR + 3k physical damage each melee attack, then FR gear sounds like the way its going to be.

taunt during/after the freeze cast, and the other tank taunt back when the buff runs out.

415 FR gives you 50% reduction in damage, so he's now back to meleeing for 25k ish.

I think we will be equally good at tanking either phase. Depends how long it lasts, and the frequency ofc. If an anti-magic shell lasts long enough to absorb it all without using any FR gear, then gg blizzard.

right, but what if its 1min of Frost blows, and 1 min of physical?

Ah, I didn't know we knew the duration.

20s is short enough that a DK can cheese solo tank it.

Bah ><

Unless he does the flash freeze faster than every 1minute though, then DKs would run out of CD.

Seems the cooldown is 30 sec and he uses it every 45 sec on average which probably makes druids in polar the best tank by far, the problem would be that a druid in polar generates no aggro and this is a dps race fight.

So I think the reason to use 2 tanks would be to have one tank in pure TPS setup to push the aggro really high and then let the tps gimped druid taunt. Or you could just stack hunters/rogues for misdirect/tott.

Cooldown times for abilities will give us an important indication of the future.

A one min cooldown high burst ability (i.e. greater than max health) would be tankable by

Death Knight
Druid
Warrior (Glyphed)

But not a Paladin (currently)

It's going to be interesting.....

I can bet anything on the fact this fight will not be singletankable on the live version.

The 2 tanks (one with FR, other with avoidance/TPS) looks perfect for 25 men.
I think 1 tank with some FR should be ok for 10 men since the hits are much lower (10k melee rather than 25k)

Really looking forward to this. With 25k melee hits, I´d say stacking stamina goes out the window pretty quick. Now to gather up another piece of every-single-tank-item-in-game and gem it properly /o/

I'd say a HP pool of 40kish should be fairly realistic for this fight. The hits are slow enough to be healed through before the next one.

Using a Druid as single tank might be a option, but i expect Blizzard not repeating the stupid error and quite forcing the tank swap somehow. Don't also forget it is a DPS race, druid in stamina/FrR gear loses a fair bunch of TPS there, and we all know that it's already fairly hard to keep the aggro from 4k+ DPS people.
Don't also forget the adds give buffs to the raid, like 100% crit, increased haste, etc, meaning increased TPS as well.

The enrage timer atm is quite forgiving, but i expect it being made less forgiving. Assuming that Blizzard doesn't intend to make this a single tankable fight. Apparently at the moment they should make the adds more useful, probably by either increasing the HP of the boss or reducing enrage timer, meaning basically making them needed to beat the enrage timer. A couple guilds killed the 10 men version by just ignoring adds.

My point is that a Frost Resist geared tank (both pala or war or druid or DK) should easily be able to survive both phases... but not to hold threat. We all know that "gimmick" DK/Druid tanks on Sarth have the aggro of a critter.
