[Program] Holy Shield instantly up, no spamming needed

Since I can't add much in terms of experience, since I have just started Kara, this will be my way of contributing to the cause. The instructions are long for the sake of being thorough, but I promise it is quite easy to use and worthwhile after you take the minute to get it set up.

How to hold down a button and have Holy Shield up instantly

Required:

1. Windows

2. AutoHotKey (Free, link provided below.)

3. Ability to follow some simple instructions!

Steps

Get Auto Hotkey

1. Go to http://www.autohotkey.com/download/ and download the first file.

2. Install the file you just downloaded. It is an exe file, so just install it wherever and accept the defaults.

***It is always a good idea to investigate where a program comes from before downloading it. By all means investigate the main page, look up info on the program, and virus scan it. However, I assure you it will bring no harm to your computer.***

Set up the program

1. Right click on your desktop, and go to new. One of the options there should be AutoHotkey Script. Click it.

2. Rename the new file that just appeared on your desktop. I use "Holy Shield." It just makes sense.

3. Right click the file, and click Edit Script

4. Notepad should open up. It will have some stuff stating the version of the program and some other information. Delete all the text here, leaving you with a blank notepad.

Now the tricky part!

5. Copy and Paste the following block of code into the word document.

Sounds like an awesome way to lose your account Rolling Eyes

@ Saphier

If you mean lose your account because of being hacked or scammed in some way, I encourage you to investigate the subject. Look online for accounts of the software doing malicious things. Post on their forums asking if the code given will steal your cd key. Believe it or not, I posted the instructions the way I did EXPLICITLY so that you had nothing to fear. There is a reason I didn't just host the completed file somewhere. Only in this way can someone have ABSOLUTE certainty that the script will do nothing malicious- you input exactly what the script will do, and any elementary programmer can tell you it only does what I have stated.

If you mean Blizzard will ban you for its use, I don't accept responsibility for anything, but I am 99.99% certain you have nothing to fear. This program simulates key strokes, nothing more. It performs functions no different that a programmable keyboard. It does not interfere with the game or grant a player an unfair advantage over anyone else. If you look at the TOS, I believe you will find all is in order. You are far more likely to get banned for afking in AV. If it is any comfort, go to the autohotkey forums and search for the name Jaegan. You will see a full page of scripts I made for WarCraft 3, some of which do things you probably won't believe possible. I have used said scripts for over a year, and my account is still unbanned.

Well, I figured I'd get one of these posts =/. Anyway, as long as it is helpful to someone it was worth the effort.

Using any third part software (such as Autohotkey) to automate in game actions/commands is technically agaisnt ToS. However, them catching you using it is very unlikely.

Blizzard has a long history of being against using third party software (even its own UI script language) to automate game actions like this. It has banned users and even removed its own UI calls to discourage this sort of behavior.

Use this at your own risk.

Personally I don't think this is so very different from using a programmable keyboard, such as the Logitech G15.

While there are stories of folks being banned for using one ... why is Blizzard explicitly supporting the keyboard itself?

From the patch note history at http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/patchnotes/
-----
Fixed an error where the G15 Keyboard LCD screen will sometimes not display the correct battleground name when Alt+Tabbing back into World of Warcraft.
-----

I personally won't use this because I'm always spamming a few different buttons. Holding down a single button for a few seconds means seconds where I'm not mashing something else ... ^_^

The ToS is generally so broad that if they want to nail you for something, they can.

Bliz is MOSTLY against unatended game play. So yes, if you have this macro on and go afk and a gm sends you a few tells and you dont respond its considered unatended game play and you can get banned.

I would not use this for the simple fact that casting holy sheild initiates the global cooldown and there are times when every second counds and maybe i dont care if i have holy sheild up...like, say, when i bubble. or if i happen to be off healing at that second.

its a good idea, but if bliz inteded all prot pallies to always walk around with holy sheild up all the time they wouldve made it cost more mana last longer and have some sort of "effects only 12 blocks every 10 secs" or something like that.

also if you forget and leave this on it will auto dismount you

edit: just reread your post, spaming your holy sheild key every 10 miliseconds is an easy way to let the server know you are trying to automate something. i thought you did it every 10 secs which would make sence. make the sleep 1000 so it tries to holy sheild every 1 sec.

Definitely not legal. Anything that simulates keypresses automatically, without user input is not allowed. The Logitech G15 doesn't do that.

Actually the Logitech can do that or something similar, as can the Nostromo n52 Speedpad, by using macros.

It is possible to set up macros with the software for those devices that automate button presses in whatever order you want so that by activating the macro you will get a series of button presses. You can even set the time between button presses to take into account GCD and lag. So it is possible to do something very similar to what the OP suggests though much easier. It is possible to set up a macro to repeatedly press your Holy Shield button with virtually no time in between presses, which would require only one button press and no holding required. I believe you can build it so that a second press turns it off or you could just have it spam the button 5-6 times which should be sufficient.

Note that as others have already pointed out this is very likely to be against the ToS so I do not recommend it. I believe Blizz is very clear on the one manual button press per ability issue. I myself am a coward when it comes to this and won't do it regardless of how unlikely it is that they will detect it and/or care. Account banned are two words that scare me to death! Very Happy
