Theory : Gear level part of equation ?

Hi ,

I have absolutely no proof, and maybe it's just my imagination : But I really think Gear level ( not the level required to wear it, but the gear level itself ) has substantial effects on how well my paladin can tank.

I have noticed such a HUGE difference in tanking in my blue set, now I have some epics that aren't REALLY better ( some minor stats ) , but the difference is definately bigger than the item stats alone : There must be more at play here.

Is it worth getting epics even if the stats are similar / worse than blue items, just to get the item 'gear level bonus' ?

Anyone noticed the same ?

Several classes activly seek out more suitable blues over some purples because of the bonus's being more suited to the job they're trying to do and as such are more effective because of it.

The thing I'm saying is :

If you have a blue item , and a higher item level purple item with the EXACT same stats : the purple item will still be giving better stats due to the level of the item , which will 'theoretically' improve your overall stats more.. ( this won't be shown in the character screen, perhaps some 'hidden' values ? )

although it's hard to 'prove' without having 2 exact same items with different item levels.

There are no "hidden" stats.

An epic with +20 stamina does exactly the same as a blue with +20stamina. The difference is the epic might have +10 (something else) on top because it has a greater point allowance.

In theory there should not be an epic with the same stats as a same level blue because designers can spend more points on the epic than the blue.

No disrespect intended, but you might want to look up "confirmation bias."

Well, epic plate will have more armor than blues even if the stats are similar. Perhaps you're noticing the effect of that extra mitigation.

this is a problem of perception: piece by piece comparison is of limited value for the very reason that putting any individual blue and epic side by side, the upgrade might appear underwhelming.

this is why you need to compare complete suits. suddenly you will notice that you "magically" have 2k more armor, 1.5k more health and 5% more dodge, which is actually just the summation of the tiny individual upgrades.
