How do you deal...

I had an excellent reputation as a healer pre-BC. Fantastic even.

I told my guild in straight, open terms that, hey, 2.01 is out. I'm never EVER going to spec Heal again.

I broke that promise at 66 and respec'd Holy for a Mana Tombs run. It was a horrendous nightmare for me, and I finished the instance feeling so drained it was unbearable. I actually hearthed out afterwards, respec'd, then went back and turned in the quests. And I spent a large amount of the time involved bitching loudly in guild chat too.

Now, I'm a bit unusual. The GM and I have been friends IRL for about 20 years now. I'm also the guild's main tank now, though I wasn't then obviously. Nobody would even think of asking me to heal, and on fights where it might seem logical - Maiden comes to mind - I usually tank it anyways because half the guild's forgotten what "wait for sunders" means.

Nevertheless, you need to set your GM down, ask him why you were asked to respec instead of bringing one of the other healers. Don't do it with any heat or with any kind of challenge; there may be a good reason for it. (Like, the others were problematic for some reason.) Then explain to him, as honestly as you can, that you will not respec again even in an emergency situation. You right now are at the point where you will stop playing your character completely if you're forced to choose between playing an alt and playing Holy. If your GM doesn't play a healer class at 70, he has zero experience with it and may very well think "healer burnout" is another term for "bored with the spec". You need to educate him on that and then ask what you can do to resolve any issues with the other healers that might've kept them from being taken in your place.

Whatever you do, don't go in assuming anti-tankadin feelings on his part. That's going to be the kiss of death, and frankly, there's a bit too much of the persecuted minority feeling amongst Tankadins these days - not to mention outright Warrior hate, but that's another issue. If you're good friends with the GM and he's usually in Group 1 and you're in Group 2, it might even be as simple as he wanted to run KZ with you again because it's been a while.

Your "Paladins should heal, end of" friend there should either be /gkicked or put on /ignore in-game and mute in vent. Announce it loudly that you are doing so because you are sick and tired of his blind prejudice against your preferred playstyle and in the interest of keeping the game fun for yourself are removing him as an irritant from your life. Then take him off Ignore/Mute to see what he says and find out if he's really that dense or just doesn't like you personally.

So... I had 2 conversations last night. One with my GM, and one with the guy who was saying "Paladins should heal, end of".

GM one didn't go so well. He still seems to think that my 1650 (closer to 1800 in holy spec) +heal set is his on demand. Despite the fact he knows how miserable holy spec makes me. Despite the fact he's an elemental shaman himself with a decent Kara-grade offhealing set. It's like talking to a wall tbh, and it's incredibly annoying.

The other guy though... seems to understand where I'm coming from after a chat. Breakthrough!

Maybe you are a better player compare to others, your GM wants a faster Kara run, got enough tanks, so he wants you to heal instead? Or he wants other tanks to be in the raid, wants you too, as you usually MT/RL, had put much effort in the guild and needs upgrades.

He didnt tell you to spec healing from now on, as long as you have equal chance to get tanking gear upgrades compare to other tanks, I dont see a big issue.

Make sure your GM knows you are a tank first, you enjoy tanking much more than healing, and talk more with him.

For example, tell him, you prefer sitting out if you have to heal, if you need loots, tell him you dont want to heal, and you can tank better faster than other tanks, or if he wants all the guild tanks in the raid, tell him some of them can spec DPS instead, since you got enough healers.

Since you are one of the officers in the guild, you should communicate even more with your GM.

You dont NEED pally healer for Kara anyway, you might want one for Maiden, but you can heal for that fight with prot spec, or if you have enough gear, priest/druid's hot can keep you up easilly.

If he's talking about pally buffs, you can still buff when tanking.

If he wants a full time pally healer, then let him start looking for one while having you tank. Its not like you cant complete Kara without a pally healer.

Thats being said, you dont want to spec holy at all.

Do not let anyone tell you how you have to play, end of. Wink

If someone wants me to spec Holy, they'd better be prepared to pay for it, as well as for my respec back to Prot after the run is over. At 100G per night, few people seem to be willing to press the issue.

I don't know if this will help you but these are the conditions I set to spec holy.

1. It has to be a progression kill or at least still new, and not an instance on farm status.
2. I have to outgear the other healers in the raid when holy.
3. The other tanks have to outgear or at least match my protection gear.
4. I still get the same priority on tanking drops.
5. The guild pays for the whole respec.

These conditions are rarely met but I find them completely reasonable. It's no different than asking a warrior to respec DPS. It seems different because you are rarely short on DPS and they don't necessarily need to respec to do it.

I easily proved my superiority in kara upon tankage of Prince with no crushing blows ( or at least no evident and obvious ones) after the raid had trouble with the warrior tank.

since then I have continued to awe everyone who comes into the group i now lead for kara.
