Revised Protection Tree

Hello,

This is my first post on these forums but I have been visiting almost daily for the past couple of months. Due to 2.3, our tree got just a little bit more bloated and what I wanted to do was come up with a tree that the majority of the community likes and possibly post it on the official wow forums for the dev's to reference to. This isn't set in stone at all, just an example of what could be done to make this tree just that much better. I also included some tweaks that the people on these forums have been suggesting.

A lot of the changes could be passed over possibly as it's mostly dealing with tooltips and changing a 1 to a 2 for example just in case you happen to read over a tweak without knowing it.

Here's the link
http://www.war-tools.com/?p=vt&i=43256&link=yes

*EDIT* Kings baseline. didn't want you to freak out and think I just scrapped it Smile

Thanks a lot to this community for all it's done, this is one of the most helpful sites i have found to date in regards to WoW.

PS: Feel free to post changes and i'll redo it until we come up with a winner

@drakykins:
Imp. HS is way too good.
I don't like the idea of decreasing the number of points to spend on certain talents.. I would rather move some talents into another tier or combine them, just as Coldean did.
5% Block from Redoubt would be nice, indeed.

Coldean:
This protection tree is great! For example, by combining Aniticipation&Toughness and moving Spell Warding to tier 3 you can start spending your points from the top to the end without being forced to spend point on lower tier-talents or even crappy talents. I just love it.
I also love your idea of Sacred Duty. Lowered RD cooldown <3
Your Sanctuary might be too strong. This would be about 280 (+84 because of Shield Spec.) extra block value with 400 spell dmg. It's bound to HS and therefore quite restricted, but I think it might me quite unbalanced running around with 1000 block value Smile

Relinked Sanc to holy shield, set reckoning back to 5 points. combined toughness and anticpation together like the above poster did.

You think the 2% mana regen is to good? or were you talking about the increased block % I was thinking it terms of raiding but I suppose it could be really OP for farming seeing is how you block way more. maybe add a "can only occur every x seconds" ? if you meant the 50% block instead of 35% I dont think thats to much to ask. It's still 25% lower than warriors and an extra 15% more would be a big help for resist fights, etc.

I'm open for suggestion but imo we really need some other way of getting mana back. A few lucky dodge/parry/miss streaks and you can go OOM pretty quick while the 1k locks are sky rocketing after you.

Also, I was playing with the idea of tweaking reckoning to maybe deal just direct spell damage instead of melee swings so it doesn't have a chance of instagib'n you against weapon wielding bosses.

Making reckoning increase spell damage would be a good idea, but the main benefit of reckoning right now is that it allows you to get twice the benefit of JoW/JoL when farming. It would make it much more useful for raid tanking, though.

Ardent defender is a defensive skill, and should not increase our damage.

This is not a talent change, but our Divine Shield needs to be changed. It needs to give resistance to attacks, but not wipe aggro. As it is, it is completely useless in PvE, except when macro'd and used as a DoT wipe. Changing it to not remove aggro would allow us to use it as a shield wall, while not making it overpowered in pvp.

I refered to the mana regenerating component of Drakykins' Imp HS. It's too strong for farming ("instant" 8% mana regenerated) and on the other hand too weak for raiding. Random critter hits me every 2 seconds, I'm blocking 50% of its attacks -> 2.5*1% mana got per HS. In raids that would be like 180 mana every 10 seconds.. enough to recast HS, but nothing more.

I agree that we could need a way to gain mana besides getting healed, since Warriors can build up Rage by dealing or getting damage.
