I want to kill the king of Ironforge.

I want to kill the king of Ironforge.

I'm confident it can be done. Here's the trick: All PvP bosses are tuned as level 80 encounters. So there's the challenge! I can tell you all what happened when my guild tried today.

We got myself, a rogue, and a warlock in the empty house adjacent to the King's throne room. We summoned ~30 people in, had a hunter misdirect, and shoot the King, bringing him to our secret hiding and fighting spot. He hits for a good bit, around 7k on plate. The thing that killed us, though, is his Thunder Clap, I think. It killed pretty much our whole raid. Over about 30 seconds of fighting, we got him down only 3%. He has a TON of health.

Anyway, we wiped, and another, much larger Horde raid was coming through the gate. By the time we were rezzed, Alliance had swarmed everywhere. We hearthed out.

But I'm not giving up! I'm convinced it can be done at 70, and I want to be one of the first with the mount that comes from the title. I think it's clear the Ironforge boss will be the hardest, so if I can get him down I'm fairly sure we can figure out a way to down the others. I'm gonna lay out a plan, and you all let me know what you think of it.

The Plan
Firstly, I think he's downable if:
We have lots of room. This way people aren't getting owned by his Thunder Clap.
We have lots of time, as his health is very high.
We have no Alliance intervention. It only takes one or two to gank us or bring more.

Sounds almost unsurmountable, right? I mean, he's in the middle of an Alliance capital. Well, I have a plan:
    1. It must happen late at night to minimize Alliance intervention.
    2. To get the room necessary to prevent Thunder Clap ownage, he needs to be kited outside to an empty area of Dun Murogh. This will also practically ensure we are safe from any traversing Alliance.

It'll certainly be tricky, but the potential rewards are impressive. Realm superiority, inspiring faction vs. faction combat, status... This boss is tuned for level 80s! Killing him would be very impressive, and I'm hoping to have it done before WotLK hits. What do you guys think?

the military ward is a big place with enough room for people to stay out of range of thunderclap easily

or the hall of explorers , as the military ward does house the warrior trainers and you don't want the alliance finding you dead at night there heh

I'd avoid the military ward as it is where the pvp people are. The Forlorn Cavern is probably the least traveled place, but may not be big enough to fight in. My suggestion after Forlorn Cavern is in the back or the back sides of the Hall of Explorers. There's some NPCs for some quest around there, but other then that nothing of major importance. Depending on the range of TC, you may be able to tank him in the back of the little circle room in the end of the Hall of Explorers and have the rest stand near the entrance.

hall of explorers is your best bet. Pull him deep into the actual museum. Part of the advantage of this area is there are few guards and easily avoidable, and no hardhitting PvP NPCs.

Wait...does this make me a traitor?

Either Hall of Explorers (huge) or The Forlorn Cavern (far away from any normal action).

The hall of explorers is hughe, no problem avoiding Thunderclap there on the other hand in the Cavern there are some buildings you could hide inside, having the tanks/melee stand oudside. Reduces the chance your healers will be backstabbed hopefully.

Perhaps wait until next brewfest? At 6pm and 6am he rides out to start brewfest and you could just pull him off the path. Assuming they didn't tweak it so he's not attackable then..

I wonder if you could misdirect to a tank in Old Ironforge... :O

Next Brewfest might be a while Razz

I agree, Hall of Explorers is your best bet. The museum area is the least traveled in all of IF, nobody goes there for anything but some obscure lowbie quests. Rogues hang out in the Forlorn Cavern, the Mystic Ward is where everyone shows up when they take an IF portal, the Military Ward is where everyone queuing for PvP is, the area in front of the bank is full of people, Tinkertown is way too small, and the Forge itself has a pit of death you can get knocked into.

What about that pit all the way around ironforge?

When I've done the summerfest quests, that was always a nice place to hop into to loose aggro of an NPC or player. For whatever reason, people never look down into it.

Have the raid waiting in the pit. Have 1 or 2 people pull the king and jump down into there. Just try to frost nova the adds and you might even get the king by himself.

What about Tinker Town? There are only two ways into that place so you could easily hold off the alliance unless they come in through the tram.
