Betamax was better quality than VHS. The only problem is that back then no one cared back then. Most people already had VHS and those that didn't saw the distinct lack of titles available. Not to mention that Sony wouldn't let anyone else make the players (kinda like memory sticks).
this time they learned from their mistakes and allow others to produce the players and people care about picture quality.
Blu-ray was the better technology so I'm glad it won. It has almost twice the storage of an hd-DVD and who doesnt like blue things? Seriously. Hd-DVD just made it cheaper on studios since they could use their old machines to create the disks.
now that the format war is over, maybe we can start seeing lower prices. 30 bucks for a movie is a bit more than I'm willing to spend. So I have a grand total of 4 blu-ray movies now (and one of them came with the ps3)
i agree. And I'm pretty sure Talledega nights doesn't count as an actual movie.

Love the grumpy old man act Barathon.
And Beta is still in use today...
You know, there is a lot of stuff about the Blue Ray vs HD DVD that isn't commonly known. MSoft back HD DVD for a number of reasons, including the fact that the PS3 was using Blue Ray, and the operating kernal was Msoft in the HD DVD vs Java in the Blue Ray.
I am gonna go to my local electronics store this weekend and stir them up a bit. No doubt HD DVD will be on sale...

The formats are:
B-Ray 25/50 GB
HD-DVD 15/30GB
Tosh could not use existing machines - this means it is WAAAY more expensive for everyone.
Still too early for me to buy tho, so I'll wait until more players support the internet connectivity BD-Live functionality.
