Well, first surgery went ok. Only pain was 2 days spent "recovering" with my mother watching big brother and duck dynasty.
Battery was implanted yesterday, and all I want are muscle relaxers. Not in much, pain, but major discomfort from soreness and muscle spasms.

On a side, why the hell are hospital schedules so loose? report time was 3 hours before the surgery. Both times. Was fucking bring.

Because sometimes in surgery, shit happens.

When I had mine a couple years ago, I was told to show up at 930a for an 11a start time. I didn't start until 2 or 3 in the afternoon, despite being the 2nd patient of the day for the surgeon, because the 1st patient had Other Issues Arise that required his attention.

Well just got back from the doctors and he said I do indeed have depression.

A least now its being treated and hopefully in a month or so I should be able to properly get my head around what I actually feel and how I should act on that. Better still I should hopefully feel happy and motivated again. Its been a while.

Quick head's up - depression can take a effin long time to heal. So don't get discouraged if things don't seem to change.

You're welcome - my wife's depression lasted a couple of months (well, she got to return to work after two months, but she still has therapy every other week for four years now), and she's been repeatedly told her recovery was impressively fast.

GFs depression lasted a couple of years.
They say it takes 4-6 weeks for meds to work - the smallprint is that the different meds don't work on everyone, and they will likely have to adjust doses when they see the effect as well.

Yea 4-6 weeks is what I was told for meds to kick in and then go back to be assessed.

/sigh

I'm pretty sure ya'll remember I was discovered to have cancerous cells a couple years back. And I remember thinking, "welp, I'm already in a high risk category, as paternal bloodlines had cancer, and my maternal grandmother had leukemia."

My mother had an appointment last week with her physician. She told me last night, they've found a cancerous mass in her, so now she'll be starting treatment before her own surgery.

On the one hand, it's not a surprise, considering my maternal grandmother died of leukemia; on the other, it really is. After all, my mother is friggin' invincible.

I've already talked with my boss, and he's aware I'll be taking time off to take care of her. Then my stepfather called to make sure I will be there at the hospital when she has her surgery. That was weird.

The placebo effect will kick in before the meds actually kick in. It's all good though - just don't assume that "oh, I'm cured" and go off meds.

Fun thing about the placebo effect? Studies have shown that it works even when people know the pill is just a placebo. Your meds aren't placebos, but just the act of taking them tricks you into feeling better long before they actually start to effect any meaningful change in your brain chemistry.

In other news, my cancer's back. This time it got caught completely randomly during a regularly scheduled MRI of my shoulder. Non-hodgkins lymphoma is the official diagnosis (thankfully it's operable), and my bloodwork shows that I've got cancerous cells in my liver again. Looks like it's that time again; every couple of years they have to take out a good portion of my liver, so now we're just waiting for the mass to grow to the point where they know exactly where it is. Next week I'm scheduled to go in and have a PET scan to show where all of the cancerous lymph nodes are, so they can be removed.

In other, better, news, I finally found a surgeon who's willing to rebuild my shoulder! The operation only has maybe a 20-25% chance of success, but I'll take those odds. If that doesn't work, he's agreed to go ahead and pin the joint (which will limit me to only swinging my arm back and forward, but it's much better than it currently stands). I'll be out of work for a few months while I'm recovering, but holy hells, if it works and I'm no longer constantly subluxating my shoulder joint I'll be one hell of a happy camper.
