In less happy news. At the doctors yesterday for a bunch of things and I asked about depression. Doctor seems pretty confident that I have it but I go back in two weeks to see if these sleeping pills have done the job first (I don't think they will). Think I will refrain from making relationship choices until after this is resolved.

Wise choice, but don't shut yourself up from romantic interaction. My wife got a short but rather frightening depression in the mid-00's and human contact really was a lifesaver every step of the way.

Orthien: yeah, be careful with putting off choices; depression easily feeds on itself, and apart from the underlying brain chemistry, "just doing stuff" really helps "correct" the chemistry (positive feedback loop ftw - you feel better, you do more, so you feel even better (repeat ad nauseam))

Hey, Nooska, can you link your sources that "doing stuff" helps depression because of a feedback loop? Most of the time, I just feel annoyed beyond all fuck, so I'd like a look at the studies conducted.

Yea definitely not going to lock myself away or anything, will keep doing things with friends and wont run should I meet someone. But definitely wont be planning any trips to Aussie etc until its sorted.
Saying that, the lack of motivation to do anything at all isn't working to well with the "just do stuff". Its taking a lot of menal willpower that I ussually don't have just to make sure I am not skipping on my powerlifting. Everything else is out of luck though.

Feeling of accomplishment = endorphin release. Endorphine release = feel better. Feel better = accomplish more stuff.

All I can find (quickly) are powerpoints etc in danish (its in danish I've seen it previously) from medical professionals (doctors, nursemasters and the like) that are presentations, as well as general advice from the patient unions on depression and psychiatric illnesses in general.

Apart from the links fivelives provides, adn the "feeling of accomplishment", its also the pretty basic "if I'm doing something I like, I feel better than if I'm not" (seperate from accomplishment, but still positive association).

I'll see if I can finde more on it, if I can remember where I read it (its one of those things that I've read at some point, which was relevant because I've suffered from depression myself, and my GF has also suffered from depression - currently being phased out of antidepressants)

Not exactly. It's more like "if I'm doing something, I'm concentrating on that and not on the things that bother me."

If it's something you like doing, then it provides an endorphin rush of its own.
