5.4 and beyond - Preparing the long winter

Postby Sagara » Mon Jul 22, 2013 7:55 am

As the final raid is slowly coming our way, it's time to start looking beyond and the next xpack. But sadly, it also means it's time to consider what might come in-bewteen: many months without new content.

The GOOD NEWS though, is that I've realized that MoP was chock-full of time-consuming solo activities, and that it's very unlikely I've done all of them, which means I'll probably stay entertained for a pretty long while before I'm forced to fall back to alts and stuff.

So, I wanted to share (and ask to share!) your to-dos as the long winter between 5.4 (or 5.5) and 6.0 begins.

First off, we have the solo stuff:

a) Loremaster of Pandaria
b) Faction farming and dailies - many of the new MoP factions have a truckload of achievements. The Klaxxi, Shado-Pan, Golden Lotus, Order of the Cloud Serpent, the 5.1 and 5.2 factions, hell even the Tillers!
b) Treasures of Pandaria, Glorious! champions, Lost Treasures and lore objects
e) Archeology got a re-run and could be interesting to re-try for a bit
f) Brawler's guild is a nice challenge
g) Isle of Giants is still there for bone and mount farming
h) Timeless Isle stuff - seems there's a whole freaking lot to do!
i) and last but not least, PET BATTLES. There's seriously weeks of stuff to do for a new pet battler.

Beyond that, there's the potential to finally tackle

3-men: Scenarios
5-man: CHALLENGE MODES!

And then, there's always the usual alt raid and/or heroic/achievement run of T14/15.

Anything else on your list?

There is no way I'm doing the "complete 20 of each Arch. find, and then hope to get "perfect" ones" grind :)

Meh, if I get bored enough, why not?

I need to be REALLY bored to be bored enough to farm archeology mindlessly for god knows how many hours for 10 achievement points.

I'm going to be dead of boredom before I'm bored enough to do archaeology achievements.

Arch is only worth it for the mount now...

As far as the long winter is concerned, it depends on a) what's going on in real life, and b) how interesting the timeless isle stuff is.

Those arch achieves sucked :(

I'm not sure what I'll be doing to be honest. I've been playing less and less the past few months not necessarily out of boredom but more the realization that I don't need to play that much anymore to get things done. I used to be one of the biggest achievement whores in this game and now it's hard to find a reason to care about them anymore for the most part.

I will be collecting pets.

Pets are the only thing I truly actively seek out and do dumb things to get. Stupid Isle of Giants.
We live in a society where people born on third base constantly try to steal second, yet we expect people born with two strikes against them to hit a homerun on the first pitch.

Actually, I feel in a similar situation - I haven't done much this xpack until 5.3. But that's a GOOD thing actually - once we're mostly done with progress, we've got the brawlers guild, the pets, the exploration-related achieves. Quite a bit actually!

In cata I got mount for main by accident. And I got it for my alt when trying to get that alchemy recipe for that Drake mount. What do I win? :D

Enjoy those! :P Especially the Shado-Pan ones where one requires at least 3 days, and the other one requires at least 27 days, and you can't do both on the same day, and you have to get lucky with the daily hubs. :P Sadly, there seem to be a bunch of those in the 5.0 factions. :(

Achievements were fun when they were a decent amount of work to complete. Nowadays, even if you do play WoW 24/7, you might still be unable to complete them all...

I like to think of that as an advantage - when I get bored of one thing, I can always swap to another for awhile.
I was also very frustrated back in5.0 to see all those things I didn't have time to handle, but I've come to realise that it gives me more to do when the hubub has died down.

EDIT/ Also forgot to ass: Proving Grounds!

You forgot to ass that indeed... I think that will also fill up most of my time, besides farming some justice points and leveling a paladin for those proving grounds (should they prove fun to do ^^)
