From time to time, I admit I get an itch to fire up my account again. But the subscription model just doesn't mesh well with my limited play time, and I just can't justify it to myself. I really like the game though.

Do some trading, use PLEXs.
Finally, my long-term gamble paid off: in 2011, when i was quitting the game, i bought 4m units of Thulium at roughly 2.5k ppu, for a total of 10b.
Now, thulium is getting a rework, and it's worth 17.5k ppu. That's 60b of gain, which, in PLEX-euros, is something like 1800€.

OK, so now I know what a bubbled gate looks and feels like.

Next task: Learn how to bypass one.

Ah. So that's what they mean by epic battles and crippling TiDi.

If only EVE wasn't like a second job. Things like this make me want to play: https://www.kugutsumen.com/showthread.p ... post549980

That ... what... there are no words. None. No. Words.
- I'm not Jesus, but I can turn water into Kool-Aid.
- A Sergeant in motion outranks an officer who doesn't know what the hell is going on.
- A demolitions specialist at a flat run outranks everybody.

Or, at least, none that are fit to be used in polite company.

Imagine sitting in a gridlocked traffic for six hours. Halfway through, you get an announcement on the radio that you and everyone you know are already dead. That's what it was like.

I used to play DAoC (Dark Age of Camelot). DAoC was created by Mythic, before they sold out to EA, and their pvp was absolutely amazing - it's the single biggest reason I can't stand wow pvp at all.

This story reminded me of that pvp. I mean sure, the servers couldn't handle it (EVE is a much smaller game and has much lower capacity for high numbers in the same area), but it reminded me of watching two zergs collide there. For other DAoC vets, imagine a hibzerg (of legendary proportions - most zergs were limited to the 250 members you could have in a battlegroup) crashing into the albzerg in Emain at AMG. Then multiply that by oh, I dunno... a hundred?

And in space. With lasers. And instead of just risking a run back from the bind stone or graveyard, you're risking things that took you months or years of your life to build. Talk about high stakes wagering.

For those who get stuck in the "traffic jam" I can see it being frustrating. But isn't that frustration at least partly caused by not being able to participate?

Heh. If it was done with lasers, lag wouldn't be half as bad.

Alas, modern space warfare is done with drones. So in addition to 4000+ spaceships, the server also has to calculate trajectory, velocity, coordinates, hitpoints, AI settings and other constantly changing parameters for 30000+ combat drones.

After the HED-GP battle, many have wondered how it would have gone if the server did not crap itself.

Now we know.

So, not sure if anyone else brought this up... But, I've been giving the 14day trial a spin and been enjoying things. The pacing is just like Invis said, real laid back, tutorials are helpful (only gripe is not getting a mining laser and having to go buy one, whatevs). I REALLY like the passive skill-up system, especially having a real-deal job and a 2 year old.

But yea, I just had some random GM ping me and ask how I was finding things. That was pretty cool. They weren't very chatty, but I asked if they were a robot and they seemed legit. They were all like 'hey, can I send you an in-game mail with some helpful links?' and I of course, excepted. Once again, can't stress how neat something like that is.
