The subscription is cheaper if you buy it new every year and upgrade to the latest version.

The full suite at regular retail price it would take roughly 50 months til you end up paying more. 2 and a half years for Photoshop at regular retail price.

So for people that use it regularly and keep upgraded it is a better value.

It certainly isn't for me, as I do skip versions.

Finally found a place online with CS6 upgrades in stock, which would cost me about the same price as the first year of the promotional sub ($30/month). So if I buy that, and skip the next generation, I'll be coming out ahead, plus I'm not chained to Adobe with my software disappearing if I ever had to cancel the sub.

My problem is that these days I only use Photoshop for photo editing, and most of the new features in PS are not for that. I use Illustrator a bit, but I'd be fine with the CS4 version of that...

I imagine large production houses won't even bat an eye at the price change (finance will gripe, but they always do).

I would be surprised if they didn't have some new 'intermediate' (and probably limited functionality) range introduced, since it seems like they'd stop making money in some segments if their pricing pushes out mid-range customers who either skipped versions or who won't pay for the full suite but weren't going to go down to whatever equivalent of photoshop basics exists now. On the other hand, they may just not care about losing those customes since it may be made up in other areas.

(the above speculation was yoinked out of my nethers based on little knowledge of their product or price structure.)

Also from Adobe developer sources the big internal change is that they're removing the CS release cycle which allows individual product teams to release new features on their own release cycle instead of the suite's cycle.

The amazing number of MDs that work here.

Your anecdote (and misinformation) does not, sadly, trump the advice from the medical professionals and/or peer reviewed research.

While that might help Acrobat Pro (which updates about once every 5 years  ) I see two things happening... stagnation (because they can) and feature creep (because it's so "cool"), neither of which will help those that actually use the tools.

I think I've decided that instead of paying the ~$400 it would cost me now to upgrade to CS6, I'm going to spend that money as part of a new camera purchase, I'll keep using CS 5.5 until it breaks with an OS update, and then assess options. (With the lack of a new MacPro system from Apple, I might be on the same OS for another year or more still...)

Depending on what Apple does or doesn't do, I might have to go PC anyway, so holding off software purchases until that happens is probably wise anyway, since my current tools still work (albeit slowing on my 6? year old MacPro that I can't update to 10.8..)

I've noticed a dps keeps getting killed by the boss during down draft in Ji-Kun on LFR. As a palatank, I use long arm of the law to stop being blown off the platform, but usually don't get back to melee range of the boss fast enough and so it strikes at a nearer dps, often killing them. Any tips on how to prevent this?

Use Speed of Light so that you are closer to the boss. Speed of Light exactly counters the push-back. So longer as you run forwards and do not strafe or turn you will stand on the spot with the Speed of Light buff active.

A guy who looks like this:

And resembles this:

Tells people

He doesn’t want larger people shopping in his store, he wants thin and beautiful people,” Lewis said. “He doesn’t want his core customers to see people who aren’t as hot as them wearing his clothing. People who wear his clothing should feel like they’re one of the ‘cool kids.

In every school there are the cool and popular kids, and then there are the not-so-cool kids,” he told the site. “Candidly, we go after the cool kids. We go after the attractive all-American kid with a great attitude and a lot of friends. A lot of people don’t belong [in our clothes], and they can’t belong. Are we exclusionary? Absolutely. Those companies that are in trouble are trying to target everybody: young, old, fat, skinny. But then you become totally vanilla. You don’t alienate anybody, but you don’t excite anybody, either,” he told Salon.

You shitbag. You are part of the reason that people have terrible problems with self image. You are part of the reason that our young people suffering from Anorexia, and Bulemia, and encouraging our young people to treat others like shit because of a piece of fucking fabric, and to send people looking for approval from anyone who will give it to them, and when they can't find it, they are depressed.

You are a worthless piece of waste.

Niki Lauda had quite a bit of his face melted and one of his ears burnt off when he nearly died in a Formula 1 crash nearly 40 years ago and he looks better than that guy.

That abercrombie and fitches CEO's attitude is disgusting. And what kind of parent buys 50+ dollar shirts for their kid to wear to school? I know I wouldn't.

The sad thing is that it's actually brilliant marketing to reach their core demographic of the self-asorbed. If you are "allowed" in the store you are better than everyone else... sigh.

Time for a national fat-people sit-in protest at their stores. :D

I use The Web Developer CS4 every day. I use Indesign (which I had to purchase separately, a couple of times a month. I would love to upgrade, but at the price it is, I can't justify it every release cycle. For me, I'm sticking with Cs4, might upgrade to 5 if I can find a good version at a good price.

But then, It's just me here. I'm the only one using it.

And like Hal said, if/when I leave here, and move on, I'm not suddenly without my software, since my work sprang for the 3 license CS4 so that I could have it at home as well.

The photographer community is furious.

The curious thing is that Adobe knows damn well they can't do this with Lightroom, because there are far too many good competitors, unlike Photoshop.

What I expect to see now over the next year or two is those competitors now have a compelling reason to upgrade their software to add enough features that photographers have no need for Photoshop anymore.

Adobe really may have pulled a Quark here.

Anyone know if it's possible to host a WoW server and leave it set on "good ol' days"? I just made it to BC last night on my cow paladin, and was expecting to me challenged by Hellfire Ramparts. Was very disappointed. It was so stupid easy... and in crap gear, too. I've got stuff left over from ZF still. I don't know if this is due to a massive down-tuning of dungeons or a massive up-tuning of level 60 characters and heirloom gear, but whichever it is, it should not have happened. This game is a shell of its former self, and I feel like I'm just going through motions, not even being challenged at all.

I remember when we actually had to CC and exert effort to complete dungeons... this new state is just sad. And as a result, no one has any etiquette in dungeons anymore... It doesn't matter if you a tank or a mage, whoever's up to the line first is who's going to pull. No one talks, even says "hi". They only time they talk is if you roll on a piece of loot they think they're entitled to.

I do think they should tune SOME things down a BIT, like UBRS for five, that's cool. That's great! It should be tuned for five people in level 58 questing/dungeoning gear, because then you could complete it, but it should not be so stupid easy that you only have to spam your main nuke to win and get free items. You should still have to CC, let the tank tank, follow a kill order, use interrupts, and have to read the short article on the boss to not fall prey to a boss gimmick. The boss of Blood Furnace, Mr. Orc Whats-his-face, did his blow-up trick, and I was the only one who ran out. Everyone else stayed in for the bomb, and I couldn't even tell that it hurt them at all. I mean, really? That's just stupid. That should be, at minimum, a near wipe, if not a full wipe.

I should add that I guess I'm a bit of a fool for expecting a change from the classic dungeons to burning crusade. I just figured they were harder to tune to the level of who might be in them, and that's why it was so easy, and that at level 60 with a gear reset from Outland, maybe they'd be properly tuned. But no... just a massive, across the board, easy-mode.

You are talking about private servers, which are frowned upon, specially since blizz devs are known to visit this place every now and then.
