Oh and back to the subject of actual frustrations...

SQL Server's incredibly helpful "String or binary data would be truncated" error.

Sweet christ man, would it kill the SSMS dev team to actually code this error to tell me which column was offending the character limit?

Holy shit.

what she said
Zor and bladeloard are much easier mechanics wise and give you a chance to get some more loot to help with elegon's dps check (more gear = more damage output = orbs die faster = higher debuff in P3)

We're _already_ pushing ilvl 500, for the most part. (My tank is probably the worst or 2nd worst geared, at about 485, and that's because he's my 3rd-highest-priority character). I would hope it's not a gear issue.

econ21 wrote:What's the problem?

Do you mark each pillar and dps with a corresponding raid marker, so each know the adds they are supposed to kill? (You are 2 healing it?) Are you killing three waves of orbs?

Do you try to coordinate so that the pillars die around the same time (thereby reducing the number of adds that spawn)?

Do you solo tank the last burn phase with a paladin tank, with no one resetting stacks?

Those three things helped us get past him. With the marking, you can often see which dps struggles to burst down their orbs and so the tanks can help them.

Yes, yes (though emphasis on "try"), yes (though warrior tank, not paladin). We were getting 4 waves of sparks down fairly consistently toward the end, probably 75% success on the 4th wave. Always had the 3rd wave down (when we got there cleanly, see below).

Problems:
- Quite a few wipes due to him going in to Draw Power shortly after a Protector spawned. In those cases we'd either miss on the first set of sparks, or lose people to Total Annihilation as they were running to their pillar.
- A couple of bad transitions after the pillars. Don't think that anyone was just standing in lightning pools, but we could be a bit better on bringing the pillars down closer to each other.
- And a couple to just really dumb things. Still had 2 people fall in the hole on one attempt. A few random deaths where people just fall over and when I ask "what happened?", I get back "I don't know". Guessing that they aren't clearing stacks (i.e., between sparks), but I'm trying to call that out each time over mumble.
- We got him down to ~8% three times. One of those was entirely my fault - I didn't realize he kept doing the celestial breath at that point and had him turned the wrong way. (I've never tanked that fight before.) Once we lost a couple people to the "ghosts" on the transition. Once ... well, I don't know. It seems to me that the healers simply didn't push enough throughput. Doesn't help that we don't have a single "healing cooldown" from any of our dps available (Vamp Embrace, Nature's Vigil, Ancestral Guidance, etc) that can really help in those types of situations.
- As an aside, I still have two people doing about 60k on that fight. Gear isn't an issue with them, they're either not on the floor enough or simply not running a good rotation.

Edit: One other thing on the healing side: It seemed ok during the protector phases, but during spark phases the people on my side were hanging out at about half health way more than I was comfortable with - is that normal or should everyone be topped off between each spark?

First one can just be handled by stopping DPS before the phase change.
Not clearing stacks during sparks can be a killer since you end up taking a lot of extra damage for no good reason when they die.
We live in a society where people born on third base constantly try to steal second, yet we expect people born with two strikes against them to hit a homerun on the first pitch.

Gone from realm first last tier to realm third. Our new recruit sucks, and our warlock is still MIA, almost been a week now. We killed Megaera but it didn't even feel good because she should have died 3 weeks ago. Bleh.

Not sure if frustration or succes, but if succes a frustrating one.

I've decided to stop maintaining the BM guide on EJ (and wowhead as I won't be doing the work anyway) as of 5.3.
I don't see a reason to do work on something that elicits the sort of vehement personal attacks I've seen from simply not having agreed with 3 other users work (actually only 2 I believe) before even being presented with the premise.
Even with a diligent moderation staff, I've still read the posts, and the attacks still fulfilled their purpose - and I have no reason to believe that they will stop.
I was tempted to follow a suggestion in the last post - to simply delete the work - but that would be unfair to both those that use it, as well as whoever would possibly be selected to take over - I'm a bigger man than that.

Add to the attacks that I've been playing very little since 5.2 hit and since the raid group fell apart, and I just don't see the idea in trying to maintain interest in writing a guide anymore - it was fun for 1½ expansions, not so fun for the last week.

Now I just have to find out if I'll actually start playing again any time soon.
Main Characters:
Nooska, Blood Elf BM/SV Hunter on Argent Dawn (EU)
Morosin, Bloody freezing orc death knight on Argent Dawn (EU)
Niisca, Shady forsaken "priest" on Argent Dawn (EU)

Keeper Emeritus of the BM hunters guide on Elitist Jerks and the wowhead version untill patch 5.3.

And I've found it useful ever since you picked it up. Thanks for your efforts there!

I hope they don't con Z into picking it up, she does too much already. But I fear one of the Simheads will pick it up, which means it will become as arcane to regular players as the MM guide. EJ really isn't what it used to be. The entire priest section is dead except for two nitwits maintaining a running battle able disc mana management or something like that.

1h49 minutes on Durumu (in theory, farm boss). We joked on tank channel that maybe we should go play some Monster Hunter.

The kicker? When RL says "Everyone should give himself a slap in the face". Hu? Hello? A-game so far here? And closes the kill on a "good job everyone".

*grumbles*

EDIT oh, and forgot to mention how apparently the maze "disappeared" at range. Yeah. Right. Disappearing.

logged in this morning real quick to do the anglers dailies, thinking they'd be the last ones I need to do to get exalted and get my fancy waterstrider. Got the DMF buff, flew back, did quests.

200 rep left! doh!

Don't worry, it's so worth it. It's the most important faction rep this expansion. That waterstrider is so useful, I'd be inclined to make it my default, if it wasn't so hideous. My monk is using it a lot while leveling - e.g. makes the coastal trip from Theramore to Tanaris much less obnoxious.

I hadn't had much use for it on the 2 toons I play most until IoT (potions of water running I used occasionally, but not often)... man water-running makes getting around that place easier.

Playing a DK main these days, I agree with you.

I'll probably farm the rep for one as soon as I start working on a non-dk char.

Even the BRk forums got a bit messy at the end. Wish there was a hunter equivalent of howtopriest.com, which has the perfect mix of theorycrafting and still allowing noob questions. Very similar to here.

Recruitment.

Three Warlock apps in the past week. We're a 9hr/wk HM Progression Guild.

.None have WoL. Ran some dungeons with two of them. 30k and 50k average DPS in a Heroic Dungeon. =|
.One in full PVP gear, no PVE gear. At all. "I DEed it all, PVP gear has better bonuses anyway." /twitch
.Two have had unenchanted items on for over three weeks.
.One was quite possibly the most toxic, racist person I have ever had the misfortune of typing/speaking to.

It would almost be amusing if the majority of potential recruits and new applicants didn't make me want to chemically castrate them for the good of the future.
