Patch 5.3 Notes

Postby KysenMurrin » Fri Mar 22, 2013 6:13 pm

http://us.battle.net/wow/en/blog/913537 ... -3_22_2013

They're getting this one moving fast!

Notable items:
- New BG, new Arena.
- New Scenarios
- Heroic mode for Scenarios (rewards Valor and chance at raid finder-level loot)
- Warriors get the Taunt cooldown reset from Vigilance back.
- Pet battles inside dungeons and raids!
- Loot specialisation: players can choose which spec to receive LFR loot for, seperate from their role selection.
- Bonus rolls take account of previous failed rolls to increase loot chance.
- "Unclaimed Black Market Containers are now available on the Black Market Auction House. What's inside? It's a mystery! When opened, the container has a chance to contain any item that can be available on the BMAH."

And the big ones:
- All characters now have a base Resilience of 65%.

- Resilience has been removed from most PvP gear.

- Battlegrounds, Rated Battlegrounds, and Arenas now have an ilevel cap. All gear will be scaled down to ilevel 496.

This PvP change is huge. Sounds like they're totally abandoning gear progression as a means of PvP advancement!

Different-spec loot rolls are nice

And the anti-bad luck system kills any chance of rolling on lfr stuff (if you are doing normals) and normal if you are doing heroics

I could have cared about pvp changes a few x-pacs ago,now it's like pvp is not in the game for me (save for the Grand marshal title hovering over my head) so,so far, seems there won't be much in 5.3 to be interested in...

Oh damn those hot shots will now have to rely on actual skill instead of picking people out that they grossly outgear.

I can hear the cries of the xbox kids already.

The spec specific looting is beyond due.

Also love the fact we don't get new 5 mans but we get more yawn inducing boring scenarios but they're HEROIC this time.. guess that means 2 out of the 3 people will have to actually do something this time instead of being able to solo them.

hell they will prob be like the "heroic" dungeons..

i completely agree the spec specific looting and quest rewards, its about dam time
i mean yeah you can swap specs before you turn in the quest but that gets old FAST

^^ indeed *ugh* - well the upside was I was able to grab crystals at feng and take over when one tank eventually failed on something like windlord.

I'm shocked.

Will be interesting to see how this stuff develops.

What I'm wondering right now is... ok, there's a gear cap in PvP to prevent people from using overinflated PvE gear in PvP.

But what will they do when next season starts?

What about this?

Heroic Scenarios
A heroic difficulty for Scenarios have been added and are designed to provide challenging content for small groups of well-seasoned adventurers. Completing a Heroic Scenario awards Valor points, and a chance to obtain Raid Finder quality items.

3 mans replacing 5 mans? I'm confused.

The main deal of scenarios is that they dont require a tank/healer, so are quicker to organize, no queue at all, compared to 5 men.

Yeah, but how would heroic ones work? They'd have to be easy enough for non-hybrids to stay alive... which already is the case? :P

Kind of think all/most/part of these notes might be an early April Fool's Day gag. Blizz ALWAYS does something for 4/1 and these are some....weird changes. Also just having new patch notes out THIS soon after the last patch? 7 years of playing WoW I don't remember them doing that...ever.

They sounds really legit honestly. Usually, blizz's 4/1 stuff is very obvious. This looks way too reasonable, and they did say we'd have 5.3 PTR sooner than we'd expect.
When that day comes, seek all the light and wonder of this world, and fight.

Wasn't published on 1st April either.

Nah, I think it will be about more PVP-power == win. So that will be where PVP gear shines. They also say 'most', not 'all'.

I also think the gear scaling as pointed out has to do with limiting the 'wah, PVE gear is better' stuff, as well as possibly being a bit of trolling on blizz's part for those people who totally say PVP is all about skill while queuing up using workarounds to get premades in order to steamroll lesser organized teams.

Well that way they can keep PvP gear low ilvl (so people can't use it to skip ilvl requirements) and at same time prevent people from using PvE gear of 30 more ilvls to steamroll people.

The tournament realms have had normalized gear (everybody has full gladiator gear) since the beginning, this is a change I thought they would implement sooner.

Yeah, I didn't say they're abandoning PvP gear, but PvP gear progression. You'll need a set of PvP gear, but once you have that set, you probably won't need to change it for the entire expac. Rewards would have to come in different ways if you can't get gear to increase character power.

I doubt that, I imagine they'll raise the gear normalisation cap with each new season to incentivise people to get the newest stuff.

I'll bet heroic scenarios will require CC's, Stuns, kites, etc, instead of steamrolling them and perhaps gear normalized like challenge modes.

Bonus rolls fails? I'm the master at that! (so far 3 toons 9 rolls each 0 wins, so that 0/27)
