It's...getting worse. This guy is the president for Brazil's committee of minorities and human rights. Famous quotes of his after he ascended to that role include:
1) "AIDS is a gay disease."
2) "STDs shouldn't be treated by the government, they're punishments for the wicked."
3) "Africa is a cursed land."
4) "Women Rights and Gay Rights destroy the families."
He's a pastor =[ How do these things happen?!

I deabted on where to post this, but this seems more apt than the Sports thread.
Mr. Kluwe has filed a brief with SCOTUS, and has the support of a growing list of Athletes.

The brief is located on there, and I'm working my way through it. It's interesting stuff.

What ever happened to the idea that congressman/governors/etc are supposed to vote according to their constituents needs/desires and not based on their own personal preferences?

As far as they're concerned, they assume that most people are exactly like themselves, and are generally blind to minorities and women. Ask them to imagine an ordinary American, and they think middle-class conservative white guy.

I think this one is fair enough. He thinks gay people should support the Republican party because they only have "one or two issues", one of which happens to be that gay people shouldn't have the same rights as straight people. Well, the GoP doesn't believe women should have any rights, either. That's probably one if the "one or two" issues he has with his wife, and they have a great marriage, so why can't gay people ignore those "one or two issues" like his wife does so they can have a great relationship?

Re: LGBT rights discussion
I saw that yesterday, it made me laugh.
I guess it's a good thing I'm not interested in remarriage, since I can no longer naturally procreate.
(Minor nitpick, but I'm pretty sure most homosexual people are still capable of "natural procreation" - just not with each other, which wasn't the argument.)

I read the transcript for the Prop 8 case yesterday, getting ready to read the one for DOMA today. So far, Scalia has been the biggest dissentor (big surprise there.)

Re: LGBT rights discussion
New Zealand's parliament will have the final reading of the gay marriage bill tonight, which is expected to pass by a 2/3 margin. If things go as predicted, gay marriage will be legal, and legally recognised, in New Zealand as of August 2013.
