Throne of Thunder Lockout Extension???

Postby Volitaire » Mon Mar 11, 2013 10:52 am

So I have a question for the community here. We are a 4 Night a week raid team (3hrs per night) and are currently 9/12, still need to raid tonight (Monday). There is considerable discussion going back and forth about extending the lockout. The only boss that really has given us much trouble was Durumu (mechanics kicked our ass for a bit).

Realistically we don't expect to be able to get the last 3 kills tonight so we are likely going to have to go one more week for sure (though we could get lucky). We also raided an extra night this week to get to the 9/12 position. We have a few people concerned that we could get hung up on a boss next week and end up not clearing the normals putting us another week behind on heroics and to avoid that risk extend the lockout. While others feel that we should get the gear because...well simply put 9+ bosses of loot is a ton of gear especially with the early progression race that could mean alot for Server and US rankings and killing HM bosses.

I personally am in the camp of we just need to push hard through the beginning of the instance so we can get back to the progression bosses and risk the possibility of getting stuck because I feel the gear at this stage is more important, I also feel that the risk of getting stuck on something is fairly small...though it does exist. What are your opinions on this? If you are really invested in helping below is my youtube channel so you can see our kill videos...but that is a bit of a strech I know lol.

Looking at WoWProgress seems you got to 11/12 on your 5th raid. Seems you had an hour and twenty minutes after getting to 11/12 before raid end time, how well did attempts go on Lei Shen?

You have a lockout at 9/12 held by Kaszáló (looking at your raid frames on your videos and then checking armory) so I definitely would not extend a 11/12 lockout. You also have a couple of lockouts at 2/12, though I do not think that would save you much time.

If this week you can have an additional raid on Monday I would start at 0/12 (or 2/12) and plan so you have the same 10 players who killed Durumu (whether they are in the raid or on the bench to be swapped in if needed).

If you can't have an extra raid and Lei Shen did not go so well I might be cautious and use the 9/12 lock.

I've never been in favor of extending lock outs unless we were really close to a kill. I'm in the boat of if we did not have any issues with the previous bosses, why not do them again and get the free upgrades.

I'm of the opinion that if you can't full clear an instance on normal in a week, you probably don't need to be worrying about heroics yet. Get that gear and you'll be better off overall.

100% this. The extra 10-20 items can be very helpful in getting that last few % too.

If you didn't clear in the first week, then you can't do heroics anyways in the second. No point in saving a lock out for bosses at that point, the gear is WAY more important for getting that last kill(s) and for doing heroics the next week.

ToT is tuned fairly high if you just came out of T14 normals, even if you had 16/16HM on farm you'll still be seeing some fairly tight moments in ToT.

So we ended up with 11/12. Only ended up with about 35 minutes total on Lei Shen. Mostly pulling to really learn the mechanics so they were a few quick pulls. We will undoubtedly be able to get him this week without having to worry about spending alot of time learning fights based around rough PTR information. I think as we got closer to the end those in the group that had concerns have decided that they are much less concerned about the need to extend. Thanks for the opinions as that was really what I was after and I would agree with almost everything that was posted.
