[10H] Imperial Vizier Zor'lok

Postby timoseewho » Thu Nov 15, 2012 11:15 pm

Hello, my guild's been stuck on P2 of Zor'lok for a while and I was hoping to get some insight here. We run the fight with 3 healers, and was wondering how the echo and boss should be tanked in P2 as well as if we should be killing the echo. Hit me with anything!

After much back and forth we ended up killing the echo. It probably does not matter that much.
the upside: When it spawns, the boss will have considerably more HP left. Echo has 20m, boss was for us above 30m at that time (10 men). When the echo dies, the fight is over. See disclaimer below though.
the downside: The last few % of the boss can be zerged when focusing only on the boss. It's a bit more annoying then usual, but the convert spell is his least used ability and that's the most annoying to deal with afer 2-3 people died. If you lose 2-3 people while killing the echo, doing 30m+ to the boss while dealing with his abilities is rough. It's definitely possible though, we had 3 of our 5 dps dead on an attempt and got berserked on 5-6%.

In general the berserk is laughable though. On the kill we had no deaths and about a minute left, after killing the echo first. No matter what you do, P1 should take you a few attempts to figure out. To sum it up:
1st echo spawns, send 1 healer (preferrably paladin) and a tank over. when force&verve starts, hand of prot the tank (force and verve and disks are physical dmg), bubble and do the dance. When second echo spawns, everyone stays on the echo as long as possible, healers should do dps as well (mana in P1 shouldn't be an issue whatsoever), when the discs start, run over to the 3rd platform (tank might have to go earlier to interrupt song).
Leave 1 tank, 1 healer and 2 dps on the 2nd platform to finish the echo. Prefferably leave your dps that screw you the most when getting MCed. Rogues, fire mages that can't put their dragon breath on CD etc etc.
When P2 starts (and your plan is to kill the echo), tank the boss in the middle (echo spawns randomly around him and cannot be moved, we wanted it middlish), do the first disk dance, do the first force and verve. About now the echo spawns, move the boss out asap.

And now comes the only difficult part of the fight:
There will be a convert, which needs to be broken FAST. Then the boss will cast attenuation. As soon as that ends - and that means as soon as he stops spawning discs, those discs are still moving around - the echo will cast attenuation. That means the whole room is filled and the discs bounce off each other. As soon as the echo is done spawning discs, the boss will cast force & verve. You can't do the normal running-through-the-opening-in-the-spiral here, just run to the far side and dodge the disks there. You need to be aware of the force & verve happening and make sure people know in which noise cancelling zone they are supposed to stand. If you survive this with 9-10 people, congrats, you may now collect the loot as the echo by all means should be dead and the rest of the fight without the echo is just the same as normal mode.
You want to have bloodlust as soon as the echo is targetable as it's up for less then 40s anyway and that's the only time dps matters in the fight. Make sure you use it after the convert has been broken though. Don't think I need to mention that you want as few melee dps as possible? I think that goes without saying by now. Our melees (had 2) managed to do the usual dance around the echo here and there, but sometimes the discs coming from the boss just mean that's not possible. I am fairly sure having only range dps is the best thing you can do. Preferrably with strong burst CDs.
Also if you have a holy paladin do the bubble/hand of prot when the first echo spawns, those CDs will be up again. I gave hand of prot to our two (specced clemency) strongest range dps so they can dps for 10s instead of dodging disks and bubbled myself to heal away.

Thanks very much! We actually used the strategy killing the echo first in P2 as well!

We've been having issues with converts aggroing onto people on the attenuation platform finishing off the echo and running over to that platform.

Anyone else had this issue?

We have it occasionally, almost always if our feral druid gets MCed before Echo of attenuation's dead. Ranged on MC platform are stacked far side of the boss so they usually get broken out before they can wander off too far, the tank on that platform tries to taunt the feral to keep them there.

When you say move boss from the middle when duplicate spawns, how far do you take him? The corner or back onto one of the platforms?

The platforms get walled off a few sec after P2 starts.

Once ZorLok starts casting attenuation for the 1st time in P2 I'll BoP 2 casters while running to the echo pillar then once ZorLok is near the Echo pillar and starts to cast Force n Verve I'll run towards the ZorLok pillar. Make sure the whole raid runs towards green 1-2 sec before the end of FnV so MC'd ppl aren't in the middle as both Zorlok and the Echo start to cast attenuation.
We did try having the echo right behind the pillar but our Echo tank and healer found it to hard to dodge discs when it was all the way at the back so we ended up having it about where the pic shows, Echo spawn location is a little random can be 10 yards in any direction from where you kite ZorLok. (The green circle should be 1st _double_ discs)

After that we have them in these positions.

Once you get this far it's more or less down to your Echo tank and healer they need to dodge discs and heal through FnV if the 2 noise cancelling zones spawn inside the pillar or inside the platforms -.-
Gl, 2nd most infuriating fight behind Amber HM.

Would you suggest working on a ToES heroic before this or equally difficult/frustrating?

Hmm little hard to say.
Protectors are relatively easy tactics wise, but they need 1 strong tank 2 strong healers and 7 good dps which isn't that easy for most 10 man guilds to get together.
Tsulong is quite a nice fight if you have good healers that will spend the time finding out how to make the most of the healing buffs.
Lei Shi looks to be the easiest going by wowprog kill numbers, but we killed it after the other 2, for us it was mostly down to the 2 dps stacking scary fog getting the timing right so that there would always be 20 stacks on Lei Shi during getaway.
ZorLok needs almost the whole raid to get everything right especially near the end of the fight, where as the 1st 3 in TES put the real important jobs for each fight on just a few ppl.
I'm probably a little on the biased side as despite killing ZorLok 7-8 weeks ago it can still wipe us more than any other boss besides maybe Amber shaper.

Something that helped us net a kill last night(ignoring echo strat) with a ranged heavier group was to heroism at 41-42%, before he left the platform and before (or right after) dealing with conversion, to get the most out of it. Had ranged nuking him the 8s or so that he was in the air. We were hitting 4-8% consistently before when we were popping hero directly after he landed, and could never seem to make the last 4%.

First attempt we did it, we hit 4% again, second time with our mage dead since 2nd platform we hit 2%, attempt after it died. The amount of damage the range can dish out in the 10s before he lands seems to help a good chunk, seeing as they get more overall out of the hero without having to lose too much while dancing. We still lost 4-5 people around/right after the second force and verve of p2, but with the extra damage done at the start of the phase still managed a kill.

obviously biased since that's what we are doing, but from all I can see, it's easier to focus the echo down. it minimizes the part of the fight where stuff can go wrong. you have one attenuation from boss and that's it. use hand of prots to let casters nuke through it, then use whatever CDs are left during the force and verve along with all dps CDs and the fight is over.

How do you position the two for the echo tactic in p2?

You guys do shit way to complex...

Easy mode P2.. when the echo spawns... drag the boss ontop of the echo..entire raid stack in 1 tight group.

dps boss.. collect loot.
