Re: All about sports
Speaking of Browns Starting QB's. I just went and found all the data for the "Browns Careers" of the Starting Qb's we have had since we have been in the league. Now, for those of you who may not know this. The Browns Starting QB job is... Well... A Death Sentence. Seriously. Not a single Starting Qb since 1999 has a winning record at this point. Including the guys who didn't start much.
Let's take a look. These numbers are woefully skewed, since some of these poor suckers only played a game.
QB Comp %
Yds / Sack Lost
Snaps Per TD
That's right! Ty Detmer Scored TD's at a better clip than Any Browns QB since 1999. Oh man.. .That's painful to look at. Obviously the #Div/0's mean those guys didn't even get to sniff the End Zone as a Brown.
Snaps Per INT
Well Mr. Spergon Wynn. Many won't remember you, but you can always say you threw the ball away on average less than any other Browns QB since 1999. And Poor Mr. Gradkowski. That's gotta rank up there as one of the worst. Seriously.
Snaps per Fumble
Well, At least Bruce can say "But I'm only one of three QB's to start in Cleveland since 1999 and NOT FUMBLE THE BALL! Honestly, on a whole, I'm surprised. browns QB's don't cough it up that bad.
Snaps Per Sack
Well. As you can tell, the Browns went through a period of time where they couldn't protect their Qb's. Shocker. I don't even remember Dough Pederson, but He can smile gleefully while he looks at the rest of those suckers and says "You fools got beat down!"
Yards per Snap
Wow. First, I went back and double checked. Of the QB's this year who weren't the Kneel Down Butler the worst YPS in the leauge this year for ANY QB not named Ryan Mallet (Kneel Down Butler), Brock Osweiler (Lots of KNeeling), or David Carr (3 plays, one was a sack) was 2.13, posted by Graham Harrell. That .38 has to be a sign of incredible abject failure Mr. Gradkowski. I'm not surprised that the vets we brought in lead the list. I am surprised we didn't have someone who averaged 6yps though.
And Finally, NPPS
Wow. We had 6 guys who ended up at league average or better on NPPS (.09 seems to be the low end of "average"). But then we can all stare mockingly at the Qb's who were worse than Kevin Kolb's massive .14 this season. Wow.
So........... Being a QB in Cleveland Sucks. The next guy they draft should say "HELL NO WE WONT GO!"

I'm of the mindset that the Shanahans wont be trading Cousins for a while, possibly only when Kyle takes over for pops and they can draft another late round QB backup. Or if Cleveland offers up some high draft picks.
We live in a society where people born on third base constantly try to steal second, yet we expect people born with two strikes against them to hit a homerun on the first pitch.

Thad Lewis.
His numbers look rough, but I take with the lens of
He started his first NFL Game 5 days after being a practice squad player, against the number 1 defense in the league, still completed 60+% of his passes, and didn't look completely lost.
Hell, I'd love to see the new coach open up the QB competition to all QB's this season, bring in a Vet (I think Alex Smith could be had for a reasonable sum) and see what happens. I think Thad Lewis could be interesting in that scenario.

Reid to the Chiefs and Kelly to the Browns.
I really hope Kelly brings in his 4th down offense to the NFL... I think that would piss off more people than Schiano going for it when the other team is doing their victory formation.
Oh yeah, Schiano is hinting at getting rid of Josh Freeman... should the browns make a move and try to get him?

Re: All about sports
I wouldn't worry about it - Pete Carroll seems to have cornered the market on pissing people off of late.
If I were the Browns, I'd commit suicide, but then I would get a Matt Flynn / Alex Smith type QB who I know can perform at a certain baseline level, and then draft a dark horse with upside from college and let them compete for the job.
I think the best thing that Pete Carroll brought to the Seahawks is competition. Doesn't matter that Flynn got signed for $21 million; if the rookie beats him then the rookie starts. Players like Richard Sherman can play their way from 5th-round pick to starter.
Competition meant that when our #2 corner (Brandon Browner) was suspended, and #3 (Marcus Trufant) and #4 (Walter Thurmond III) were hurt, our #5 cornerback (Jeremy Lane) came in and played starting-level cornerback for us.
It's happened with other positions as well, like on our offensive line. Granted, our line isn't amazing, but still, to have the consistency of play from replacements has been invaluable.
So yeah - bring in a "safe" QB, then bring in a guy with upside and see if he can win the start.

Eagles now in the lead to land Chip Kelly.
Luck's receivers had their gloves all buttered... Joe Webb also had more points than Luck...
Ray Lewis' Waffle Maker gets to live another day.
So far, all 3 games have been somewhat disappointing, I expect Trollhawks - Skins to be different.

Re: All about sports
Yeah, it should be an interesting game. So far, everything else has been predictable and not very interesting.
The hawks could end up running away with it though. That first run by RGIII did more to show just how much his knee is bothering him, choosing not to make the cut inside with an obvious big hole. He's still a weapon, but nothing like his usual self.
Once the emotion subsides, I don't think the skins will be able to keep moving the ball like they did on the opening drive, and I think they'll have a very tough time stopping the hawks, but you never know which road team will show up for Seattle.

That knee just looked like it exploded. RGIII should have been pulled in the first half, and with all the controversy surrounding how that injury was handled, it sounds like Shanahan has some explaining to do.

You can do anything on torn acl. It's a stabilizer, it's not used for movement. In fact John Elway played his entire career after having his acl removed. That said, with Dr. Andrews right there on the sideline with him, I don't think he would have been walking on it if his knee wasn't passing those stabilizer tests. They probably can't be sure until they look, but I doubt it's completely torn.
I will say when I saw it, I assumed he blew it out.

Could there have been a worse weekend of wilcard games?
The Bengals looked AWFUL
The Packers won the minute the Vikings announced Joe Webb would start
The Colts tried hard, fought hard, but just ran into too much emotion. Anyone who thought the Ravens were going to lose, in Ray Lewis' last game in Baltimore was crazy.
RGIII.... Well... Uh... That sucked.

I dunno, it kinda felt fitting end to the skins
- shanahan leaving his limping qb on the field
- bobby 3 sticks trying to play on bravado alone
- snyder being a cheapskate on field maintenance
It was just like a vortex of suck that ended in a very predictable manner...
Specially since andrews had not cleared bobby 3 sticks back in wk 14

Speaking of "Fitting Ends"
The Browns Coaching search had a very fitting end to week 1.
Chip Kelly, no longer in the running.
Every other option so far has signed elsewhere.
Now, let's get serious, and move on to a coach that doesn't run a gimmick that wont work in cleveland, and start looking at "real" candidates. Not that I could even begin to identify who would be interested in the job. I mean, most browns fans want Cowher, or Gruden, or Saban. I just want a coach who isn't going to suck. I'd prefer one with previous experience as an NFL Head Coach, but not named McDaniels.
But they've created a problem. They want to hire the coach first, and then the GM, and make the GM a puppet to the VPFO and HC.

I guess Kelly decided to stay in college, where his team is always in the run for the BCS Championship... whereas Browns and Eagles will most likely take 3 years to be seriously competitive
Also, because we love to pile on the Jets

Also, there were news last week about Rex Ryan having a tattoo of his wife, wearing a sanchez jersey, while tebowing.
