Hmm, I appreciate getting a bit more Apple Jack time, but I'm not sure it developed her character much. :/

Well, I always thought AJ as being "the bedrock". She's got a strong set of values that are insanely hard to twist. The best way to go about that is to push them to their logical extreme, which can be fun at times, but get a bit limited after a while. In many ways, AJ isn't cut out to be the "main trouble", but more to serve as the "main solver", or as an antagonist to another pony (Rarity and Rainbow Dash are her natural counter. Thins is, there is no really "lazy" or "dishonest" pony to make her shine.

To a point, she's like Fluttershy that way - there's little that can be twisted in their approach to life without getting really complicated.

To use another metaphor, AJ is the warm and steady hearth, where other (see RD and Rarity) are the explosive bonfire.

I see what you mean, Sagara. Guess you have a point! I'm sure she could have her own little "minor villain"-nemesis though, like that magician that's always causing trouble for Twilight. I'd like to see Apple Jack in a sort of leadership role of some sort of adventure, like the times they've gone into the forests or when Rarity was with the diamond dogs. I think she'd make a natural leader!

Also? Maybe SHE's secretly Batman!

I think the core weakness of AJ is a fear of disappointing. Not failure per se, but of others losing respect for her.

That would be quite the interesting challenge, in fact! Twilight usually gets a lead-role-ish, so take her out of the picture for an episode or two, and you can be pretty darn sure AJ will naturally more front and center, probably terrified at the idea of replacing "genius" Twilight, failing horribly and losing the faith of her friends.
