[10N] Stone Guard gone wrong

Postby DisRuptive1 » Sat Dec 22, 2012 8:41 pm

My guild recently got 10N Mogu'shan Vaults on farm but we still wiped on Stone Guard once last week because the energy bars went wrong.

On the pull, I tried to taunt the active mob when it hit 45 energy but the taunt didn't go through and was put on cooldown. I got it on the second taunt but that screwed everything up. The situation that I memorized hadthe solo mob at 92 energy while the two other mobs had around 80 energy. Because of that one bad taunt, we kept getting explosions which sapped the healers of mana and wiped the raid.

When something goes wrong in this fight, what can be done to fix it?

From the sounds of it, it seems like you have one tank keep two of the mobs on them. You can easily just have the other tank take that role.

After you have gotten 3 of them to high energy, it cannot be fixed without getting new explosions. It could have been fixed early on, and we've certainly had some failtaunts or some such that we recovered from because of the slight delay in the dogs' movement, but the only way you could possibly "fix it" is to get all of them to the same Energy (e.g. with one 92 and 2 at 80, you would get the 2 at 80 to 92, drag everything together), take 3 Explosions at once, and basically start as if the fight had started again.

Taking 3 explosions at once is not really doable in Normal or Heroic ;)

I'm sure it can be gotten away with in Normal with just every cd popped at once.

It is possible to recover from having them all high energy without eating two full blasts at once, but it's more complicated than the usual.

80 + 80, 92 alone
100 + 100, 92 alone -> 1 suppressed blast, 1 full blast
10 + 10, 92 alone -- 10 chosen to Petrify
50 + 50 -> swap w/ 92 alone
58 + 100, 50 alone -> 1 full blast
88 + 30 -> swap w/ 50 alone
100 + 62, 30 alone -> 1 suppressed blast, safe state reached

In practice it's just a wipe if you have to eat an explosion on Heroic, so make sure the DPS keep their cool during that first transition where threat can easily screw it all up, and never let all 3 generate energy at the same time.
