I am level 61 now, I don't feel the need to play other than when I want to as I know from other games at launch that it takes a year to get a polished product these days.

My wife and I just potter and are 'casual gamers' tm. The rest of our guild are already 80 and have said that short of exploration there isn't much to do, the dungeons are 1 trick ponies and the WvWvW is an absolute joke. A lot of them have gone back to Eve as their main game already.

I think Ultima Online and then to a larger extent WoW broke gaming for me personally. I no longer have the spare time or commitment to want to be online every night doing stuff. I play as and when I feel like it now.

That being said, GW2 is an awesome game for the levelling experiance and the story, I cannot recommend it enough.

I haven't yelled at my PC in a long time... until the clock tower jumping puzzle. Holy balls. I think I gave myself a headache last night. I finally completed it and then I did it again immediately aftewards in one try just out of spite. Two hours or so of practice to get to the end.

I have to say, I'm fairly impressed with the holiday event so far. I can do without a few things though, such as the stupid zergs farming the doors for candy corn. The scavenger hunt was really fun though. I did the first one all on my own without consulting a guide but the second one I was low on time and used a walkthrough.

I spent my first $10 on gems and I picked up the witch clothes for my elementalist. The characters have a hilariously derpy face while riding on the broom.

That jumping puzzle was crazy!
It ended up taking me about 2 hours as well and I was so happy when I got to the end. :D

GW2 has a "refer a friend" thing going on now. I'm not sure if there is a limit or anything, but I haven't used one, so if someone wants to try the game out for free, send me a PM and I'll "refer" you.

As far as I know the free referral trial ended today and was limited to the last 3 days.

I've tried it too, and noticed that AN isn't much better at creating events than blizzard. Lag and chaos everywhere with a lot of confused people :P

And I thought the opening of the gates of AQ in WoW was shitty...

The event was great in concept but not so great in execution. Luckily I didn't disconnect at the end and was able to get my loot from the chest. I got a legendary precursor... but I was trolled. It is the trident that no one gives a fuck about. Sad too cause it actually looks cool. Too bad underwater combat is mostly ass.

Still, the 20 slot bag was worth the lag and deaths (normally cost 10g+) as was the accessory.

I hope that they learned a lot from this event and how to make them better in the future. Less invisible enemies, less tedious phases of hard to kill mobs for 30 mins at a time, etc. It is almost like they totally underestimate the popularity of their own game. People show up in droves to do these events and max out server capacity. They should spawn more overflows with less people and then code it so you can't just hop into another overflow server that the event is still going on and get loot again.

EDIT: Written on mobile, be aware of possible confusion courtesy of touchscreen, laziness (I hate typing on touchscreen) & autocomplete.

What I REALLY don't get is why they have the overflow system in the first place. Anyone who played the first game (Guild Wars) will remember the district system, which worked brilliantly. For those who didn't play the first game, the district system was sooooort of like the overflow system, except represented by a drop down list where you could (whenever you wanted to) choose what district (or overflow, if you will) to be in. Easy to hop back and forth, easy to figure out where you and your friends are.

There were also specific districts for different regions (Europe, America, International, and later some Asian ones) and I think also, at some point, for different major languages (French, German, etc.) but I might be mixing that bit up with something else.

District 1 (of most regions) was always packed with people (and could sometimes get laggy), but great if you wanted company or trying to buy/sell items. Would be great if they had added a population count to the district name like "District 4 (233 players)", too.

Anyway, my point is, they had many great systems at place in GW1 that they've made worse in GW2, and I don't see why and it frustrates me because I really wanted this game to be the focus of my gaming time. And yeah, like you say with the events and things, they seem to constantly underestimate and put sticks in their own wheels.

In the overflow I was in, lag wasn't too bad of a problem. We did have one "wipe" caused by mobs spawning late and on top of the group. Other than that, it was fairly smooth. However, I didn't get either the bag or the accessory, and could not equip any of the armor that I got, so that was a bit of a bummer.

On another note, the fractals of the mists is a fantastic dungeon with basically unlimited room for expansion. You can compare it to Caverns of Time in WoW. Participating in "The Searing" from GW1 as charr was pretty fun. Freeing a colossus from being chained to a cliff was also excellent.

On the other hand the rest of that patch is absolutely retarded. I'm starting to wonder if they're intentionally trying to damage their game, less than three months after launch.

Can you elaborate on what you thought was bad? I don't recall anything in particular that was terrible but its been a while.

Now that the Fractals frenzy has died down a bit, I'm seeing more people going back to explorable dungeons. I've started pugging a bit more and so far they haven't been all that bad. A few have been sloppy but still successful. I'm mainly playing extra casual these days. A couple explorable modes per week with some guildies, maybe a few bits of map completion here and there and that is about all. I have 0 desire to grind out for the agony resist gear and frankly, I don't need to. My exotic gear still does the job quite well for all the content I'm running. It is fun listening to people get up in arms about the grind for gear they don't need though this is nothing new. The argument has been around forever in WoW with great gear available for heroic dungeon tokens, etc. Even though there is a minor stat gain (8% I think it is?) in 3 slots, the agony stuff feels more like grinding for resists rather than an increase in power. Not raiding Molten Core? Then you don't need the fire resist gear.

I'm looking forward to the winter holiday in a week. I think I'm going to skip the town clothes on the gem store this time around though. It will have to be amazing for me to consider it. I regret buying the witch costume on halloween. Oh, don't get me wrong. It is neat and all but I almost never swap to it. I hope that they come out with some more armor skins that we can out right buy rather than having to gamble with the damn black lion chests.

I dislike any system that relies on more than 1 level of RNG to get me the things I need.

Kill boss -> Chance of good item. That's fine.
Kill boss -> Chance of chest -> Chance of key -> Chance of good item. Gtfo. :(

Nice :D I keep wanting to come back to GW2 (logged on just for a few mins last night), but I don't quite feel like I can just log on and play solo for an hour like I could in WoW - Only real solo content (I think?) is exploring and almost had 100% when I stopped. :( Also, of course, it was stupid of me to go straight for the exploring, because now it's not as fun to level new alts because I've already seen all the areas. >_>

I really do mean to come back to it some day, but I dunno. I mean to come back to WoW as well some day. Maybe...

Sadly my GW2 time has decreased a lot as well. I log in to do the holiday stuff once and I'll do some dungeons with friends once or twice a week and that is about all. And I'm ok with that. If I had reached this point in WoW, I'd be raiding once a week, doing a heroic once or twice a week and paying $15 a month to do so. Yes, I'm that cheap :(

you are always told to hang around after a dynamic event, just to see what the npcs will do next...
well i have another reason to

while exploring/gathering presents in Bloodtide Coast (just south of lions arch, 45-55) i came across Captain Penzan (hes not on guildhead...)
who was searching for his lost gold with his first mate...i figured ok typical escort event

found the gold, started back and the event finished and i started to run off....then decided wtf, ill hang around

followed them back to the cave where i first revived them, and was witness to this...

Anyone still playing regularly? I just got back into it where I'm actually playing every day. I've gone back to my warrior and have been setting him up with berserker gear so I can farm dungeons more easily. Using gw2lfg.com can be annoying. Especially for things like Citadel of Flame path 1 farming. So many elitist assholes that get bent out of shape if one little thing goes wrong and if you aren't a fully geared berserker warrior, guardian or mesmer, good luck. To get around that, I started my own group. I just invited warm bodies that knew the run and I didn't give a shit if we didn't clear it in 6 minutes. I just wanted to turn my brain off and it worked out pretty well. I have the luxury of actually being a geared berserker warrior but I'll be damned if I want to hang out with those uptight assholes.

To be honest though, I'm not really sure why I'm bothering. The new laurel vendor has some good stuff and is the only source for ascended amulets so obviously my first purchase will be one of those. Otherwise, what am I going to use all the farmed gold for? I guess I'll finish gearing my warrior and elementalist with exotic jewelry and then... time for another break perhaps. I really wish there was something productive to do that doesn't require an obscene amount of grinding. There doesn't seem to be any middle ground. Most everyone can get a full set of exotic armor and weapons pretty easily but beyond that, the only other options are 100+g for T3 cultural or several hundred gold + hundreds of hours farming for a legendary. I guess laurels count sort of but even then, you are looking at 30 days for a single ascended item and then another 20 days for a halfway decent infusion.

I lost interest quite a while ago, but a friend of mine and I have been considering to give the game another shot sometime this spring. I really do want to enjoy this game as much as I enjoyed GW1 and WoW. :(
