When was the last good NFL quarterback from USC drafted?

Might be the best thing for him. He's get drafted in the 6th round, sit on a bench someplace, hopefully behind a solid starter, learn, and perhaps get a chance to play in 2-3 years. No pressure, no expectations. (ala Brady?)

Total Amusement.
I'm projected to win by 75 this week in my league. Yes. My opponent has all roster slots filled.

Palmer was quite good there for a while back in the mid-00's. Didn't live up to the expectations, but he did perform pretty well in his first years in the NFL.

If you go back and look at his career as a whole
Carson Palmer
--------------------------------------------------------
Completions 2453
Attempts 3,920
Yards 28,170
COMP %62.6
TD's 182
INT'S 125
QB Rating 86.4
He has played in 116 games
He Averages:
completions 21.14
Attempts 33.79
Yards 242.8 yds
TDS: 1.56 TD's
INT'S: 1.077
I found a QB who I think we would all say is "Pretty Average" for the league. Bernie Kosar. Not Great, Not Terrible.
Bernie Kosar
--------------------------------------------------------
He played in 126 Games.
Completions 1994
Attempts 3365
Yards 23301
COMP 59.3
TD's 124
INT'S 87
QB Rating 81.8
Per Game
C - 15.82 - (-5.32 Compared)
A - 26.7 - (-7.09 Compared)
YDS - 184.9 (-57.9 Compared)
TDS - .98 (-.58 Compared)
INT - .69 (+.38 Compared, The only category that Kosar was "better" than him)
You could argue that those numbers aren't fair, because Bernie played in a different era (or you could say that Palmer is slightly better than average) Let's look at another Average QB that is Carson's Contemporary.
You could use current Qb's like PHillip Rivers (109 Games played)
Phillip Rivers
--------------------------------------------------------
C - 2134
A - 3337
YDS - 26488
Comp - 63.9
TD's - 178
INT - 90
QB Rating - 95.0
Per Game
C - 19.57 (-1.57 Compared)
A - 30.61 (-3.18 Compared)
YDS - 243 (+.2 Compared)
TD's - 1.633 (+.073 Compared)
INT'S - .82 (+.257 Compared)
You Could Argue that these numbers are close enough that they are... Similar QB's in "Quality by the Numbers"
Or you could compare him against someone people think is "Really Good" "Big Ben" (123 games played)
Ben. R.
--------------------------------------------------------
C - 2299
A - 3629
YDS - 28866
COMP - 63.4
TD's - 182
INT's - 104
QB Rating - 92.8
And you get a per game of
C - 18.69 (-2.45 Compared)
A - 29.5 (-4.29 Compared)
YDS - 234.68 (-8.12 Compared)
TD's - 1.47 (-.09 Compared)
INT - .84 (+.237 Compared)
I started running this to prove that Palmer wasn't very good. What I'm seeing is, that he is tasked with throwing more, and completing more than "the average", and is on par with "the Good" I uh... Well, I didn't expect this. He is asked to throw more often, and completes more throws (by % as well), for more yards, with a better TD Ratio. You could argue that the increased workload of throwing accounts for the INT's as well... Let's keep running some numbers... I'm surprised.
So let's see what "greatness" in "today's" league looks like.
Mr. Manning
--------------------------------------------------------
C - 4912
A - 7540
YDS - 57533
COMP - 65.1%
TD - 420
INT - 204
QB Rating - 95.5
He has played in 217 Games.
Per Game
C - 22.63 (+1.49 Compared)
A - 34.74 (+.95 Compared)
YDS - 265.12 (+22.32 Compared)
TD - 1.93 (+.37 Compared)
INT - .94 (+.137 Compared)
Finally, someone who throws more, at a better clip, for considerably more yards, with more TD's, and Less INT'S. I think it's safe to say, that we already knew that Palmer wasn't... Elite.
Or "Historical" Greatness
Mr. Marino
--------------------------------------------------------
C- 4967
A - 8358
YDS - 61361
Comp - 59.4 %
TD - 420
INT - 252
QB Rating - 86.4
Games PLayed 242
Per Game
C - 20.52 (-.62 Compared)
A - 34.53 (+.74 Compared)
YDS - 253.55 (+10.75 Compared)
TD - 1.735 (+.175 Compared)
INT - 1.04 (-.037 Compared)
So... That's interesting...
Huh... Maybe Palmer has a bad rap? Maybe he is a lot better than we have thought.... I uh... huh.. His #'s aren't Manning-esque, but, They really aren't that far off from a man that is considered a benchmark by which others are judged...

Playing in Cincinnati is a negative to any player, the franchise simply does not commit to win, they'll occasionally stumble into being competitive but being the Bungles they fall back to what they are quickly.
Palmer is about as pedestrian a QB you can get, completely okay and will be good on a better team, meaning he could be like a Jay Cutler type. Gets you to the playoffs every year but not capable of putting the team on his back. He fills the vast middle tier of QBs with the likes of everyone that isn't a Manning (heck even with 2 Superbowls Eli is completely workman in non-clutch games it seems), Brees, Brady or Roethlisberger (he's a bit hit and miss in the playoffs).

Roethlisberger is not in the same league has Brees, Brady, and Peyton.
Palmer is a good QB by NFL standards. I don't think Palmer has a bad rap, I think most people do believe he's pretty good. He's been to a couple of pro bowls and I think he was even an MVP once. He's firmly in that next rung of QBs after the handful of elite dudes, and certainly not an embarrassment to USC.

Re: All about sports
Football Outsiders rank Palmer as an average QB for 2009-2010 (dyar and dvoa ranked him from #10 to #18). This is post-shoulder injury playing for some not very good Bungles teams.
I actually found the earlier rankings here. They rank Palmer as #2/#3(!) in 2005, #3/#4 in 2006 and #6/#10 in 2007. His 2008 season ended early due to the shoulder injury.
His career averages out to pretty good, but not elite. But back in 2005/2006, he was an elite QB for a couple of years.
Edit: Conventional numbers for the 2005 season: 32 TDs (#1 in the league), 12 INTs, 3 696 passing yards (#2), 68% completed passes (again #2 amongst QBs with at least 100 passes, but Jamie Martin in #1 only threw 188 passes).

Oof, and the ducks had a really good shot considering the teams left K state/Notre Dame are a MUCH better matchup for them than Alabama. Now the door has crept back open for the SEC.

Yeah, after today, Alabama could be #2 again.

Pat Shurmur found a way to lose a game twice.
Weeden was efficient,
Richardson was bowling people over again
Greg Little has learned how to catch
We can dominate a half of football
We can have miracle throws with a minute left in regulation.
When our star CB is out of the Game, we play a guy that goes all Tonya Harding on the opponents WRs
When it's 3rd and 8 in OT, and the game is on the line, we will screen to the RB
God this team is killing me.

I have no other option for sports related programming really. I normally check out other sites, but cruised over to ESPN to check my fantasy football team, and saw another SEC Poll on the front page. Other than that, I watch the games they have, and Mike and Mike before work.
My sports related channels.
STO (Sports Time Ohio) - Cleveland Indians Network. Does a lot of High School Stuff, but other than that, it's really Cleveland / Ohio Homers. You now, the guys trying to sell you that the Browns are getting better, and have a shot at 8-8 if they could just get lucky, or this terrible fucker named Bruce Drennen. He makes me seem like a "when I open my mouth, there is nothing but sunshine rainbows and lollipops" type of person. I swear, how that idiot has a show, is a mystery.
FSN (Fox Sports Ohio) - Not sure what they show anymore besides Cavs games and terrible (D grade) MMA. They lost the Indians Games when they got greedy.
NBC Sports - Do not have. Had it for a while, but now the channel just says "Not available"
CBS Sports - Do not have. I've heard that their network is up and running now, but I can't find it in the guide.

It was also pretty bad yesterday morning, I was watching Sunday Morning Countdown (I do like the NFL Coverage) and saw the scroll at the bottom had "Projected BCS Rankings by their expert" with Kansas State #5 and Oregon Not listed... I was floored. How in the world could you predict that K State, who got CURB KICKED by an unranked team would still be higher in the polls than Oregon, who losts to a ranked team in Overtime?

I'm just glad my Seahawks managed to get what looks like a decent starting QB for a 3rd-round pick, or the NFL equivalent of pocket lint where QBs are concerned. Russell Wilson is really exciting to watch.

He looks to be a good find for Seattle.
I'm still torn on Wheelchair. His Comp% is low (55%), but he has dealt with more drops than any other QB in the league. How many of those were Receiver problems, isn't really a "good stat", but I do like the line "If you touch it, you catch it". He's not setting the world on fire with 2300 yards pass, but he is in the West Coast Offense, and the play calling has been.... suspect. He's at 11 TD / 12 INT, which isn't "AWFUL" for a rookie.
It's one less TD than RGIII (but 9 more INT's)
It's one less TD than Luck (who has the same amount of picks)
It's five more TD's than Tannehill (but 1 more pick)
It's four less than RW (but 4 more INT'S)
He has more yds than wilson (who has a more consistent running game)
and Tannehill
Less than Luck
and more than RGII
I don't know. I'm just tired of a loser for a team, and I'm just waiting on pins and needles for JHIII to make up his mind at this point. After the game yesterday though, it's hard to imagine him (Shurmur) staying.
