Re: 5.0 patch August 28th*
I've already got my launch night routine set out: a nice early night, to be well rested for playing the next day without the hassle of trying to log in on launch night.

My launch nigh will involve picking up my physical CE box, installing it, repatching and going to bed, while watching some of the accompanying blu-ray disc, then playing a bit for the next couple of days - I have too many meetings that week
.

FWIW, the Cataclysm launch was extremely smooth. Surprisingly few people actually go out and quest the instant midnight hits, so it's actually way more crowded if you don't start until morning. Logging in right at midnight isn't necessary because the expansion-prep patch is already in place and the server just flips a switch. Don't let Diablo III's launch discourage you, those guys have a completely different system.

IIRC you do have to log out and back in to be able to gain XP.

o.O
Not my experience. Midnight launch was hell on the server I was on. Some people couldn't even get in for 45 minutes and the scads of people running about was insane when it was a drop quest.

Didn't restart for us. The login server got crushed, but the realm server was up the whole way. They didn't even have to restart to fix the bug that left xp switched off for the first 30 minutes.

GC on hos tweeter said if everything works as planned as soon as it is live time the entire server will switch live on the fly.
We live in a society where people born on third base constantly try to steal second, yet we expect people born with two strikes against them to hit a homerun on the first pitch.

Same. Initial zone as crowded that finding 11 nagas took me something like 20 minutes. I just gave up at some point and just went istancing to get away from the starting area.
Also server didn't crash at all, but as they said, you needed to do a relog to "activate" Cata, and that simply destroyed the login servers. Took me a good 30 mins to log back in game despite being logged at 24.00.
offtopic: Can't believe it's already 7 years I play this game. Time is passing fast.

its been 4 for me, and i agree completely

Brekkie:Tanks are like shitty DPS. And healers are like REALLY distracted DPS
Amirya:Why yes, your penis is longer than his because you hit 30k dps in the first 10 seconds. But guess what? That raid boss has a dick bigger than your ego.
Flex:I don't make mistakes. I execute carefully planned strategic group wipes.
Levie:(in /g) It's weird, I have a collar and I dont know where I got it from, Worgen are kinky!
Levie:Drunk Lev goes and does what he pleases just to annoy sober Lev.

Anyone EU side play with the scenario yet?

Did it an hour ago, Horde side.
Nothing fancy, a couple minibosses, one with a "down the totem" mechanic, the other with a "dodge the canon" thing. It's a good way to kill 30 minutes, even better than dungeons. Now, I'd have to sent a ilvl-appropriate alt to try...
